“This hotel relys on the sunshine,”

This review is based on the experience that we received. We stayed at the riu kaya at the beginning of October, as a regular visitor to Belek I was well aware that the weather may be cooler and there would be rain. We arrived at the hotel to be shown our room, I sm not a fussy person nor did I expect a sea view but when entering the room there was no view as a huge tree was completely covering the balcony and growing into the room, the room was very basic but very clean. You could not fault the food, regardless of what time of the day it was, it always was presented perfectly and very tasty, the staff work very hard.Unfortunately the weather was terrible, constant rain for 4 days. Our quibble wS that no entertainment was laid on, there was plenty of empty avalible rooms that could of been open to shelter people from the rain such as the theatre, bars or even the disco. But everywhere was locked. People could either stay in there room or cram into the 1 bar that was open, this is was 200 people or try dnd congrigate around the pool tables. it was very unsociable and people were very down and de motivated, you could accept if it was just one day but day after day wAs very tedious. It kind if put a huge damper on things. However for the last few days there was blazing heat and a great time was had.

“wonderful holiday!”

We stayed here from 16th September for 2 weeks with friends. Throughout our holiday we were treated exceptionally well from reception to the gardeners. The gardens are very well kept. The paths are swept and cleaned daily. The choice of food was exceptional, how anyone can complain about the choice is beyond me! Both waiters and barstaff were friendly, polite and obliging! The room was a good size with the minibar being restocked daily with water. Max the thompsons rep and Sharon the customers relations were both lovely people who would help and advice about bith the hotel and local area. All in all we had a fabulous holiday. Thanks to all the staff at the hotel.

“Disappointing!”

My husband and I have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel starting 27 September. We were unhappy that the main restaurant and Italian restaurant were on the 1st floor with no lift just stairs and a circular ramp which was difficult for my husband as he has trouble walking. The food in the restaurant was very Pepper orientated and as I do not like Peppers found it extremely limited in choice. The fish and meat was generally overcooked. thank goodness for the beach BBQ which was a little repetitive but fun.

The garden was well maintained although from our room it was difficult to tell as the view was not brilliant. Our bed was extremely hard even after finding a duvet to sleep on. I was suprised that in a 5 star hotel there was not a box of tissues.

The activities were well organised and the staff attentive and friendly. Everywhere was clen.

The hotel was predominantly occupied by German and Russian guests.

We hired a safe for the 2 weeks we were there and were charged 1.50euros (PER DAY) which is outrageous as we have travelled worldwide and never been charged at this rate! Apart from that the safe didn't work for 2 days, when we reported it a man came and tried to sort it out, said he would be back 10 minutes later but he didn't return (later we found he had gone swimming)!

We have stayed at Riu Clubhotels in Cape Verde and Agadir and found that they are far superior to Belik - so sorry Belek, never again, you have a lot to learn!

“This Hotel is worn out !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed here for a week and were glad to come home as bedrooms were in holiday camp type blocks and were tired, knocked about and had stained furniture, antique mini TVs and ancient bathrooms - just not the quality we are used to in a 4* hotel let alone a 5*. The reception was small, dark and horrible a really bad first impression.

The staff tried hard to be friendly and keep things clean and Max the Thomson Rep was very upbeat (against all the odds) but they didn't have a lot to work with and the maid tried to get us out of our room at 11 on the last day and was quite rude when we wouldn't leave.

On a positive note we saw some great entertainment - the Gala Nigt was fab as were the Chinese acrobats and the modern Dancers. We had some rain which was unfortunate however the animation team could have turned this around and arranged some indoor entertainment in the Theatre/QBar but didn't grasp the opportunity - just put on a German Film - so we were all bored.

On a positive note the food was good and plentiful particularly the beach bar lunch actually too much food though. I would suggest less variety in the main restaurant as so confusing wandering around choosing from so many main courses also no need for the Q Bar Midnight food (stale sandwiches/pastries) which just got wasted.
Of the booked restaurants - Italian ( need more veg or salad tho) was great but very rich, BBQ was fun and we didn't make it to the Turkish but everyone raved about it so make sure you book these.

Nothing to do in the local area although friends got some good bargains at Belek Market (Tue or Sat)
We went on the Waterfall/Side/Boat trip - don't bother you just see dirty old countryside/rubbish all the way down the river on an old wooden boat with inedible lunch/a dirty rubbish strewn beach were the coffee shop was old plastic chairs you wouldn't sit on.

The Riu Kaya next door had a much much better reception areas and public rooms , bedrooms about the same but in a hotel style rather than blocks and much nicer pools so we wished we had stayed there. We were lucky enough to see a great Tennis Tournament which was the highpoint of our holiday.

As you may gather we will not be back to Turkey.

Room Tip: All dated but quieter near Reception

“Great Hotel - Turkish style Riu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We stayed in the Riu Kaya the first week in August with friends and we had 3 young adults (18 – 22 years) and a teenager (13years) between us. Riu had taken over the hotel 10 months ago and the rumour was that it was to be levelled next year and rebuilt as a Riu Palace.
The rooms were lovely and we had an interconnecting room for the boys – 2 big double beds in each and spotlessly clean. Mini bar refilled regularly and maid left lovely towel animals with rose petals on the bed. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful although I would say the exterior of the buildings could have done with a update – but on the whole lovely.
Outside the Caribbean this is the best all inclusive for food and drink we’ve been to. There were 4 restaurants – 3 requiring booking and the main one with the super buffet in. We sampled the Turkish and Italian restaurants and they were absolutely superb. The drinks were plentiful, strong and available almost 24 hours a day. Free WIFI available in the pool bar and lobby.
The beach was lovely and had plenty of sun beds and never any issues with being pestered with sellers. The sea was like stepping into a warm bath!!!
The evening entertainment was good and at midnight if you wanted to carry on we frequented the indoor bar where you could get a sandwich and a nightcap and some good conversation until the early hours. If you have young adults with you – the disco is fantastic and plenty of nationalities to socialise with.
The only issue we had was with the animation team. We are Riu gold members and have stayed in many Riu hotels around the world. In every Riu hotel we have ever been the animation team have been superb with teens and young people as well as young children. Sadly they seemed to struggle here with engaging teenagers and didn’t make an effort to encourage their participation.
I spoke to Hannah and Sharon who were the guest liaisons for Riu and they were fantastic – and spoke to the team about the need to change their strategy. Sadly it was too late for us and i am really sorry I didn’t speak to them earlier as I’m sure things would have been different. Both of them were a credit to Riu and I hope they stay on.
Overall a very good hotel – I would recommend for all groups i.e. couples, families, older families – still needs some of the Riu magic to filter through to some of the staff – but the foundations are well established.
