“don't bother”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

we stayed at this hotel in January 2012 - the staff were lovely but the food was not, it was really basic. the same curry every night, there were other dishes but nothing to write home about. Breakfast was all curry as well aside from the odd fried egg. If you are going to Goa you really need to go 5 star it really is worth the extra couple of hundred pounds. the pool is totally cramped with beds touching each other and if you want to use the other pool you have to climb up so many sets of different steps by the time you finally reach the pool you need a respirator, so it is NOT for older people. Nearly all of the rooms are located around the pool area where the bar was located, people were out there screaming and shouting until 4am, we had to move rooms 4 times. The staff at the hotel were lovely, but the rest was very very disappointing. don't bother. We stayed at the Cidade de Goa last year and it was fantastic, the food was out of this world. The problem with the staff at Sun Village is that they are frightened to say anything to the people who were around the pool area at night! Well, like the rest of Europe, they had better start getting tough on these people or a lot of us will not be going back, it totally ruined our holiday! Next time it will be 5 star. We did speak to other people there who said 'it never used to be like this, we've been coming for years!' but they were also disappointed and the queue to move rooms was getting longer and longer. on the upside, they did have entertainment every night and that was very good.

Room Tip: make sure you are away from the pool in a superior room

“Looking Forward to visitnig again next month.”

Me and my wife will be returning to The Sun Village next month for the third time.
I have read the latest reviews, and hope that my mind won't be changed about the place on my next visit.
We holiday all over the world and have learnt to take each place as we find it, hotels and countries are different the world over and it is impossible to compare one with another.
Must admit the main reason other than the fantastic weather for us returning to this hotel is the hotel staff.
We have found the staff here to be some of the best and most genuine hotel staff we have met anywhere in the world.
The same can be said of the local people you meet out and about in Goa.
We have also found the food at this hotel to be of a very high standard on both of our previous visits, but then again I suppose this also goes on individual taste.
We are certainly looking forward to our return next month, to meet up with some old friends and hope we will not be disappointed.

“Brilliant holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I have just returned from yet another brilliant holiday at Sun Village, as usual the staff were excellent Pappu waited on me hand and foot again, and Wakil and Basant were so kind and caring too. Nothing was too much trouble and made my stay so much better. The food was excellent and plentiful. I changed rooms a few times and everyone was so good about it. Met up with friends I have seen over the last four years and met many new friends, everyone joined in with each other, a lot bought sari's and the men dressed up too. They don't have animation teams so some of the English did their own version of aqua robics it was great fun.
We went to Baga beach, Candolim beach, Mandrem beach and Aswan beach.
The hotel is being painted and spruced up. Mr Shetty the manager was always around and is so nice to talk too. Altogether I had a wonderful time and hope to return next year.

Room Tip: I had a superior room

“We will not return...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We have stayed at Sun Village every January for the last 12yrs.. The staff there are as wonderfull as ever...but that is the only positive thing I can write about the place. The rooms are now very tired and in need of some tlc. There is limited amounts of hot water so forget about showering after 6pm...The hotel is heaving with Russian tourists who don't know or care for queueing in any way or form. The hotel is now a place where people should only go to if they plan on sitting around drinking all night....that what the Russians do and boy oh boy do they get drunk and very loud..shame really!!. The shops around the hotel are as good as ever and Sammy the currency exchange will get you anything you need and is totally honest and reliable. On the other hand there is a small jewellery shop outside the hotel run by a man called Raj and all I can say is 'SHOP THERE AT YOUR PERIL'...The man is the complete opposite to Sammy.

Room Tip: Don't get room near the bar as it gets very noisy at night.
