Graceland is a working vineyard and you would expect them to be busy with all the work that involves, especially since they produce some very well made, balanced and serious wines. However, both Sue and Paul McNaughton were incredibly helpful. Sue gave us suggestions for an itinerary along the Garden Route which proved to be exceptional. We stayed in places that the Rough Guide made to sound unpleasant, but which were, in practice, exceptional and amazing.
We managed to stay in both the garden cottage and the attic room during our 4 days at Graceland. The former offered seclusion and self sufficiency, but the attic gave us a luxury bed and the feeling of being pampered! I liked the little touch of fresh milk appearing in the fridge every day.
Sue was also a great help in finding one's way through the hundreds of Stellenbosch wineries, with excellent advice about those to visit. Restaurant bookings and directions were all readily made and given. I'd go back there tomorrow!
