“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My husband and I planned a 2 week trip around South Africa. When we book Hawksmoor House, it definitely stood out to us as a country/farm house with lots of charm and very different to the other hotels that we were staying in. We were not disappointed! Lovely staff and guests made it really feel like coming home after a long day winetasting. Only surprises were that it was a bit further north (20 mins) from the Stellenbosch town and our room was a bit warm at night (no A/C) with only a little fan. Very large room though and cool open shower. Definitely worth going, not every day you can stay in a 300 year old farm house!

“relaxing and enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My wife and I spent 2 days at the Hawksmoor House while in South Africa. I was looking for a relaxing experience at a unique hotel –I was not disappointed. The grounds surrounding the hotel are a working farm with a great family of dogs and horses. I was well taken care of and felt that I couldn’t take enough photos before we left. You truly have the feel that you’re visiting an old friend and forget that you’re staying in a hotel. A truly remarkable place.

“Just go there!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This was our favourite guesthouse on our trip in South Africa. It really is the most beautiful place. I would return in a heartbeat. Very good value in our opinion. If you find yourself in the area, this is the place to go for....you won't be disappointed!

“A Relaxing Few Days..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed at Hawksmoor House for three nights and had a great time. The house is beautiful and our room (the White room) was very stylish. The main bedroom was large with doors onto a private terrace. We also had a separate dressing area, small spare bedroom and a large bathroom with a free standing bath and separate shower. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by two playful dogs and given a brief history of the house whilst being taken to our room.

Breakfast is served at a long communal table which may not suit everyone as the table is quite cosy when full. There is a selection of cereals, breads and pastries and you can also order a cooked breakfast . The pool area only had 6 sun beds but we were always lucky enough to get two. Most people are out and about during the day so tend to spend an hour or so by the pool towards the start or end of the day. You have to drive to surrounding restaurants and so the cheese and meat platter was a very good and tasty way of spending the evening at the house enjoying the ambience, and a perfect way to spend the evening watching the sun set over Table Mountain. There is complementary tea and cake in the afternoon; however a nice touch would be to go round the guests to let them know it is available.

We have been to Cape Town several times and usually stay in central Cape Town but it was nice to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle and Hawksmoor House is less than an hour from Cape Town but feels a million miles away (although you can hear the motorway). We have stayed in numerous places like this over the years and it really is the staff that makes it special. There are a number of people who work at the house but would have liked to have seen them a bit more during the day when we had questions – and possibly for them to be more knowledgeable about the surrounding area. On one occasion we asked where the best place would be to go for a walk in the surrounding area but didn’t really get any suggestion. They were however all very friendly and welcoming

“A place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

If you are looking for a place to relax Hawksmoor is the place to go to. Beautiful property, decor with taste and lovely garden. I recommend to have breakfast on die stoep (veranda) with its view over the long rectangular pond and Table mountain in the distance. The staff is informal but at the same time professional. I loved the rooms also because there was no tv. Over all the place gave me the feeling of not wanting to go anywhere.
