We arrived at the Evergreen Manor Spa at approx 19.00hrs.We were greated by the night porter, who had difficulty talking in sentences & threw his hands over his face ,to think every time we asked a simple question eg what is available for breakfast.
We were shown to a room on the ground floor, entered from the back yard. The room was dark with no natural light. The furnishings were dark and oppressive, with the large bath positioned in the room? it reminded us of decor in a victorian mella drama, When we tried to close the door it rattled not closing securely. When we checked the lock it almost fell off in our hands.
We then decided to look aaround the grounds.The swimmimg pool, which was outside our room was dirty with a thick layer of dead leaves on the bottom. When I complained the porter advised me that the pool cleaning device had been on all day, This was obviously not the case, by its condition. I took this statement as an affront to my intelligents and decided to leave immediatelly.
We drove to Franshoeck and found a delightfull modern well appointed B&B for the same price being charged by the Evergreen Manor.
I believe that the claims by this establishment are misleading and how they can claim, on their web site, 5 star accomodation, I would claim to be mis representation.

We stayed here by chance having gone to the tourist office (who are extremely helpful!) and been directed here! The hotel is a lovely old house that has been comfortably renovated to include spacious rooms with very spacious bathrooms (separate baths and showers) yet in keeping with the age of the house. It is situated a short walk away from the main street but it is perfectly safe to walk around. It is also located very close to the botanical gardens which are free and well worth a visit!

evergreen is owned and managed by a lovely south african couple who goes the extra mile to ensure client satisfaction and have understood the meaning of warm welcome and service to perfection. The building renovated is one of the oldest and most original architecture you will find in this area. the rooms are spacious and very confortable with each piece of furniture and fabric hand picked. wonderful location for surrounding wine estates and practically in the centre of stellenboch town. very safe.
