“A restorative oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

After a two week safari in Botswana, 6 days of travel from Port Elizabeth on N2 and route 62 we arrived to a serene country setting - we were reluctant to leave.Jean Marie was a welcoming host and venue manager. We relaxed by the pool, had lovely walks in the vineyard and sampled the wine tasting offered complimentary to guests. We didn't have to leave for dinner. Muni prepared the most delicous Bobotie and Greek salad just for the four of us and we settled in to two nights of card playing and reading our books.

“great place to explore winelands and cape region”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2010

We spent three nights in L'Avenir and it was a real great experience.
Located a few minutes drive from Stellenbosch (and maybe 40-60 min from Capetown) L'Avenir offers a very calm and relaxing environment with great views of the vineland.

L'Avenir has approx. 10 rooms which gives it a personal and comfortable atmosphere. All is newly renovated in a beautiful modern style

Staff is great, very friendly and cordial and always helpful.
You can help yourself at any time from the fridge or the wine bar and just write down what you consumed.

There's no restaurant, but being that close to Stellenbosch, it's not an issue. Breakfast was rich and very tasty.

Also free high speed internet is always a plus.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay and I'd always choose this place when coming back to the region.

“Trendy Winery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

We stayed at L'avenir on a roundtrip tour of South Africa to discover the vineyards around Cape Town.

Don't expect the traditional Cape Dutch lodge here. L'Avenir is a new, modern and trendy place. Lounge, breakfast room and bedroom were all decorated in a very trendy but charming way. Everything very clean and neat. Nice private balcony with a view on the vineyards. Unfortunately it was winter which spoils a bit the otherwise romantic outlook on the greens.
Winter time however does not seem to be the best time though to visit. Guests need to check in before five o'clock which we unfortunately we did not know (we arrived after 18h00). We got a very warm welcome anyhow !
During the winter season the lodge does not serve any food either, which was rather disappointing (we were not informed in advance - probably a mistake of the travel agent). We were convinced by the lady at reception to try the traditional evening at the Spier Winestate. Don't go ! Unless you want to queue up for food at a huge buffet, pay prices for which you can eat in South Africa an 8 course meal in a fancy restaurant, get your face painted and sit (worst of all) outside in the freezing cold (despite the courtesy blankets).
Back to l'Avenir though; the lodge operates a general lounge with a charming pick & pay system. You can freely take the drinks you like (they have everything) and you just enter them in the book. The lounge is cosy and you can find nice photobooks of South Africa throughout the place.
Traditional Breakfast on offer, not a too wide choice but all very well taken care off.
Definitely worthwhile a visit but I'll advice summer rather than winter !

“Luxury in winelands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2008

The country lodge consist of a few bedrooms in a manor
house plus some one room self-catering accommodation
by the swimming pool, all located in the middle of vineyards.

Public rooms are good with a large room well decorated with an
open fire in the winter, plent of wine related books and
a well stocked 'honesty' wine cupboard.

L'Avenir is a working wine farm - one of the Capes top wineries
and now owned by the French Laroche wine company. The winemakers wife manages the accommodation and supervised the recent upgrading of the rooms to luxury standard.

Pride of place must be the two corner bedrooms with
their own private openair plunge pools and showers.
Nothing beats showering in the morning in the open
air while looking over vineyards.

Breakfast is good, basically anything you want;
they'll cook eggs and bacon )and they have HP sauce!)
and you can sit inside or on the veranda

In the evening you can wander through the vines
getting great views from the hilltop, and the farm
dog will walk along with you trying to show the way.

Tranquil and restful.

“A haven of tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2008

After a busy day of wine tasting on one of the many wine routes in the Cape Winelands, there is nothing better than coming home to L'Avenir's breath-taking sunset views - best enjoyed with a glass of their best of course!

Marco is a gem and will help give you what your heart desires - even if it's not on the menu. We stayed in a room with a private patio and plunge pool and fantastic vineyard views. The decor is very simple and the linens, plush.

The grounds are peaceful and well-kept and the swimming pool feels private and exclusive with wood loungers and soft towels.

We loved L'Avenir and will definitely be back!
