“An excellent budget hotel wihtout the budget feel!”

My girlfriend and I stayed at Planet Africa back in October for 5 nights. We found it to be a good base for exploring Cape Town and the area around the cape, conveniently located outside of the city centre in the upper-scale area of Sea Point.

Location wise, the Sea Point is one of the better, safer neighborhoods in Cape Town. The hotel is a couple minutes walk to the sea front and pretty close to the nice beaches of Clifton and Camp's Bay. There are a few good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and a supermarket, especially the well-known La Parla (excellent seafood) and a pretty good cafe called New York Bagel (or something like that).

As far as the hotel goes, the entire place was recently renovated and had a new, clean feel to it. This, along with the game reserve lodge decore, make the hotel feel more themematic and less budget. Don't expect the Ritz from the rooms, though - they are well decorated and quite clean, but very basic. We had an Okavango Suite that was 'European' in size - the large canopy bed (with TV mounted on top bar) consumes the room, leaving a small amount of space to manouver around it. Oddly enough, the bathroom is huge, about the size of the bedroom, and comes with a nice rainforest-style shower - excellent pressure! The included breakfast was surprisingly good and more than you usually get at more upscale hotels.

All in all, this is an excellent budget hotel without the economy feel - well worth the money in a city where safe, decent accomodation is not cheap.

“A wonderfull African Lodge in Town”

We stayed 3 nights at this unusual city hotel. Okavango Suites are pretty small, extremely clean and quiet. The room decoration is in an African style with the mosquito net. However, they are not very well furnished (no table, no seat, ...). Only 1 bed, 1 wardrobe and 1 TV. Bathroom is OK with its very large shower. I recommend the room OK12 which has 2 windows

The hotel is nice with its bush style and the large bar. Personnel at the reception desk is very professional. Swimming pool area is a good place to have a rest after a long day walking in the city. Continental breakfast is always included in the rate.

For the price, this hotel is a very good deal.

The surroundings are safe. There is a supermarket around the corner and the beach is 3 blocks away.
