“recommendations totally justified”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Further to the comments of my friend and fellow traveller-David from Portsmouth-we chose Afton Grove as our base to explore Capetown and its surroundings because both my brother-in-law and my son couldn`t praise it more highly, having stayed several times between them over the last 10 years. It was a most relaxed atmosphere and Davids` reference to the willing and expert advice for any trips we were planning(including organizing taxis etc)was very welcome.I would like to make special reference to the incredible expertise Chris had on the huge variety of bird and animal life in the area.Way back last year when we first made contact with him at Afton Grove to make the booking,I mentioned my interest in the birdlife,he immmediately sent 4 hand-drawn sketches of walks in the vicinity and all the birds I should be able to spot there. Thanks Chris -as you know-it worked perfectly and you even took the trouble to identify the video footage for me!

Room Tip: all rooms were close to the reception/breakfast/pool area-so take your pick!

“Helpful Hosts and Relaxing Environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Chris and Louise are the ideal hosts, Full of local information which they are are eager to pass on. We stayed seven nights and each day we were greeted by the hosts at breakfast and given advice on our daily excursions. Well supported by the manager Ann who was extremely helpful on all matters. The Guest House environment is very relaxing and ideal to chill-out. The staff were very considerate and always had a smile for you, making you feel at home. I highly recommend a stay with Chris and Louise

“Charming retreat in the country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We made a last minute decision to stay in Noordhook and we were so pleased that they could accommodate us at such short notice.

We arrived late (10pm) and the night security guard showed us to our room.

The room was lovely, the bathroom was rather cramped tho.

There were two rabbits (Floppy & Taylor) and two tortoises (Speedy & Pit-Stop) who roam the garden grounds freely. I thought this was a nice touch.

So be sure to check under your car before you pull out!

Breakfast was great. A cooked breakfast just the way you want it. With fresh fruit and pastries already out for you to tuck into.

Chris the owner was very helpful in recommending local restaurants.
Ann was very cheerful and friendly.

Really enjoyed our two night stay.

“Seemed very nice on a quick stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I cannot give too much info on this place as we arrived late and left early on a rainy day, so we did not see much of the grounds. Our room was very nice. The owner was very accommodating as we needed an take-away breakfast and lunch and both were ready very early for us. Security on th egournds was very good with a locked security gate and a 24-hour guard - this is not so far from Cape Town so it is reassuring to have this level of security. I think the took some license with the name of the place, as it is not really in the country (just a few miles outside of Cape Town) but that is a minor point. I would certainly recommend the place for anyone who needs a place for a night in the Cape Town area.

“A good value friendly base for Cape Town and surrounding area.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Location is good for visiting all the Cape Town attractions. You can easily get to the wine region and further along the coast to whale watch. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully designed. On our second visit we stayed in room 12 which was a self catering suite but we stayed on a B&B rate. The breakfasts are great, I especially like the choices – ie different cereals, yoghurts, fruit and also the cooked breakfast is plentiful and hot. The staff are all very friendly and the host Chris has a vast knowledge on bird watching and can advise where to find a particular species! It is a peaceful place despite being in a town environment. Evening meals are not a problem with many restaurants within 15 minutes drive. Can thoroughly recommend.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are good size Self catering suites are larger with more room
