“Great view, poor hotel”

We stayed at Leisure Bay hotel as the website looked good and prices were reasonable. The best part about the stay was the view and friendly staff, that's about it. The hotel is tired, really needs an update, it looks old and worn and they haven't spent any money on the public areas and feels like a motel. Chairs and tables in restaurant are old and the food is just average with lots of out of stock items. Only positive the waiters freindly nature but we ate only one night in the bistro, waste of time and money. There are a few good places withing walking distance (a nice thai house also on the beach)

The rooms were ok, good space and looks like they were updated in the last few years but the bed was damaged and we could not sleep. I used the sofa and my partner used the single bed in the other room. Also cleanliness not up to standard, it seems like they vaccum and wipe surfaces but not too much else, for me not 4 star standard. The door to the balcony was stuck, the a/c didn't work all the time. Happy about German tv channel.

The breakfast was fine but the same each day and very busy, The waiters tried very hard but they were hardly managing and no support for them. We did not receive our tea and had to go for coffee on our own. Again some out of stock items, bread not fresh and many flies.
We took breakfast at lagoon beach hotel on two other mornings.

We asked to see the manager but he was always not available. I was shown who he was one morning but the man ignored us. A lady at the front desk apologised and told us he was a new hotel manager and promised to arrange an appointment but no phone call even.
We were offered wine and cheese but refused as we had a tour booked until late this day.

The hotel price is cheap and we know why. When we make the reservation, the lady provided different details each time on email which is not professional. We called to South Africa to speak directly and this was difficult as the lady was quite rude.

We love Cape Town, the view is amazing and you can see the mountain clearly and the beach is just in front of the house. But we are disappointed with the hotel, we look forward to a quality relaxing time but there were many problems so we not enjoy so much.

Maybe visit the beach there but avoid the hotel is my advice.

Room Tip: choose a two bedroom suite so if the bed is broken you have possibility of other bed and sofa. Try o...

“Great hotel with great view of Table Mountain”

I have been staying here on and off for the last 7 years (work related). The hotel is about 10-15 minutes from down town Cape Town. So if you like a little privacy and to be away from the hustle and bustle this hotel is great. They have one and two bedroom suites, the breakfast is to die for, and the staff is super friendly. Every time I go back I'm greeted by hugs and hellos on a first name basis. These are fully equipped apartments really, so you can cook, do you your laundry, sit out on the balcony, and enjoy the most amazing view of Table Mountain.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean and have an awesome view of Cape Town and Table Mountain

“This Waterfront beats the other one”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Best view in Cape Town, with the beach on your doorstep, and only 10 minutes max to drive into the centre of the City. We had a two bedroom suite which was well apointed and comfortable, combining the option to self-cater with the use of the hotel's facilities. Hotel Bistro isn't top notch, but it's convenient, and there are smart places within walking distance. The BIG plus point since our last stay two years ago is the amazing new bus service. Walk down to the corner, get on the spanking new, sparkly clean MyCity bus, and you're in the City centre in minutes, with the option of a free ride onwards to the other Waterfront - magic! Well staffed, cheap, and every 10-15 minutes.

Room Tip: Just ask! book direct if possible. All rooms have a sea view - some have much smaller balconies than...

“You couldn't get a better view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of visits - both for business and with my family on holiday. The view is spectacular and as each room has a sea & mountain facing balcony complete with chairs and table (ground floor leads straight out to swimming pool area) you have plenty of space to enjoy it. I would agree with a previous advisor that the dinners are not wonderful but breakfast is adequate and there are plenty of good local restaurants in which to have dinner.

I found the bathrooms to be above average - appreciated the seperate shower and bath.

An added bonus is that each room has a mini kitchen complete with refrigerator, microwave, etc and is well supplied with adequate crockery and cutlery. Suggest you keep a few bottles of wine in the fridge to sip while watching the glorious sunset.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view

“Beautiful Stay, UGLY Checkout”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

I absolutely loved my trip to Cape Town and thats still such an understatement- nothing like it! - and this hotel did contribute to that. The view was gorgeous every day when I stepped out on the balcony since all rooms look on the Atlantic and would see Table Mountain to the south, Robben Island in the distance, Blauberg to the North. Such beautiful sunsets as the sun would drop behind Lion's Head. The room was little outdated but overall good. The service of the housekeeping and restaurant areas staff was great. Because my reservation was made through Orbitz it included a buffet style breakfast everyday and I could also order anything from the kitchen as well. Was great for saving money on meals. I think the parking charge for people who are staying more than few days is bit much. I stayed 3 weeks and had to pay R25 per day which was like $75 (total 3 week parking bill) and while cheaper than most US hotels, still... Did laundry several times and the ladies were always good in helping me with it and they received tips for it. Such friendly ladies. My only but biggest issue was when I went to check out. I had verified with front desk about costs of phone calls. Local calls were 59 cents (their currency)/minute, toll-free was, well, free! When I went to check out, they handed me a bill for R5500.90 (about $775). I noticed that some of the calls were during times I wasnt even in the room, I was on the side of Table Mountain climbing- have pictures to prove it with time stamps. I had used a calling card who gave me a local toll-free number to use and they verified it was a toll free number thats the calling card company's business. But the hotel insisted it wasnt toll-free. So I went back later in day and demanded a printout of details of each phone call- couldnt give it to me, we had to go through each call and write details from their computer. When I actually was checking out I was very unhappy and desk personnel went and got the manager who spent all of 10 minutes with me then went back in her office and left an employee and a trainee with me to solve the issue. This issue is still not resolved! I am waiting on accounting personnel to review and resolve this issue. I would NOT stay at this hotel due to beyond poor customer service on the side of the managerial staff- emphasis on managerial!!! Phone card company reverified number and informed me that the hotel was trying to con me so - my advice, if you stay here- CLOSELY watch your bill and DO NOT USE THE PHONE! One other little beef- make sure you take enough adapters for electrical plugs to the large 3 (triangular shaped plugs for 220. There was only one of the small 2 round pronged receptacles in the bathroom. Hope this helps!
