stayed during the Oyster Festival in 2011. Didn't have high hopes, but was still disappointed. Some of the staff were quite pleasant, but others like the night watchman were rude. Rooms were small with lots of noise from neighbors - paper thin walls. Breakfasts were not good. wouldn't recommend.

This was a basic B&B, with a good location in Knysna. The place was kept clean and simple. There were no frills here, and as others have said, the decor could use some updating. The rooms were comfortable, and relatively spacious. Nothing special, but I cannot pinpoint anything I found grossly wrong. The TV was a bit small (like 12 inches or something). I liked the location in Knysna, as it was tucked in a plaza that had several good restaurants. It was centrally located to walk on the main road.
The bathrooms were very basic and a little small. The bathroom had french doors that did not close well. I was traveling with a male friend and it was a bit awkward when one of us had to shower or use the toilet.
There was free parking, no wireless internet. Breakfast was basic but included - 2 eggs cooked to order with bacon and toast, and a table laid out with cereal, some cheese, juice, and some fruit. The lady who was working in the morning was friendly and spent a considerable amount of time helping me make arrangements to go paragliding. When she realized she misquoted the price, she made the booking for me foregoing her commission with the paragliding company.

Perhaps you don't have to compete hard for customers in Knysna. Certainly the Wayside Inn doesn't try too hard. Given it's price - it was poor value compared to places we stayed in for less money. The service was indifferent, breakfast limited and the rooms over due for an update. I'm sure you can do much better in Knysna.

This is a nice B&B, just off the N2 on the main road through Knysna. It would benefit from a bit of updating on the room decor front, but offers good value and some friendly staff. It has a good location for getting to the Quays, the Heads and along the N2.

Look out for Daniel the night porter/attendant - he is an absolute star and we enjoyed chatting to him about his Khosa roots and language and his views on the past and optimistic future for SA. It was worth the stay just to spend time with him - although the other staff were great too and very helpful.
