“"Home away from home"”

After returning from living in America, I have just spent 10 days at Milkwood Lodge in Hermanus. Linda and George couldn't have done more; they made me feel at home and I really enjoyed my stay. The rooms are set back from the road in a lovely garden with beautiful old Milkwood trees. I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone looking for upmarket accommodation and personal attention. Linda always seemed to be going 'the extra mile" to make her guests feel comfortable.

“SUPERB!”

Wonderful stay to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Linda and George made us so welcome. She turned herself into a pretzel, creating vegetarian meals for us, and treating us like royalty. This has spoilt us by setting the standard very high! Can't wait to return. Thalia and Nina.

“A comfortable stay in Hermanus”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

The Milkwood Lodge is 10km from the centre of Hermanus, which was further than we were led to believe. However, the room was clean and spacious, if a little dated. The hosts were very welcoming and hospitable. They even went so far as lending us long sleeved tops to go kayaking and facililated a late breakfast for us. A lovely stay and walking distance from a beautiful beach.

Thank you for your kind words and response to your stay at Milkwood Lodge.
We appreciate your feedback.
With regard to the location of Milkwood Lodge - we would just like to point out that the entire length of the cliff path, hugging the coastline, from Grotto Beach to the new Harbour is only 11 kms, with the Old Harbour being more or less halfway and also the centre of the Village.
Milkwood Lodge is situated a few blocks above Grotto Beach which is where the cliff path starts.
Therefore we are situated 5 kms from the centre of the Village, and also within walking distance of Grotto Beach, Voëlklip Beach as well as Kammabaai.
You may be a little confused about the distance as your Kayak trip between the Old Harbour and the New Harbour would be approximately 10 kms if you did a round trip.
We look forward to perhaps meeting you again later this year when we have completed our refurbishment program.

“Generally disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Having spent several days travelling through the garden route making our way back towards Cape Town we were looking forward to spending two nights in this 4 star Luxury Hotel - which is what we were led to believe it would be (we booked through a tailor made travel company). Unfortunately when we arrived we were faced with George telling us we were not booked in, with our protests he then decided to check their "system" only to apologise as yes indeed we were booked in! Then he led us to our room - which has self catering facilities?! We naturally thought a mistake had been made as we were booked for luxury bed and breakfast. George assured us no mistake had been made. Other issues; ANTS for which we were just given a spray to deal with ourselves! dated decor and very poor provision of tea/coffee making - including out of date Long life milk - the irony is magic!
Sadly this was our honeymoon so we feel pretty bitter with the disappointment - but not all blame is to George of course as it was the travel company whom booked this place for us as luxury accommodation - which of course may not be what George tries to sell the room as. In other words if you are looking for comfortable accommodation this is fine AS LONG as the price reflects that. Don't get misled like we did!

“Great location, comfortable, pleasant and well run”

We were two couples travelling together and stayed at Milkwood Lodge for 5 days during February.
What we particularly loved is the spaciousness of the rooms and bathrooms with the private patios onto the garden. The rooms were recently refurbished and the crisp white linen and towels made the rooms very inviting. There is a good size swimming pool with loungers and a communal patio with barbeque facilities.
The venue is within easy walking distance from Grotto Beach and the Cliff path. The centre of the Village is only 5 kms away - a 10 minute drive or an hour+ walk on the cliff path. The Hermanus Golf Course is less than 3 kms away. We would recommend Milkwood Lodge to any discerning visitors to Hermanus and will certainly return in future
