We have just spent four weeks at the Adderley over the christmas and new year period, and could not have picked a better hotel. We booked a luxury suite, and had two huge rooms, so much bigger than european standards. As described in other reviews, one large lounge/diner, and one very large bedroom, with amazingly comfortable beds, although the feather pillows could have been a bit harder for sleeping. The rooms are furnished a little minimalist, and our only gripe was that there were no drawers anywhere, so no where to put things away out of site.
We had a rental car for our holidays, and found that the reserved spaces in the multistorey at the back of the hotel was perfect. There is an entrance from the car park straight into the third floor hallway of the hotel, accessed with your room keycard, which was brilliant. The entrance and reception area of the hotel is slightly pokey, and belies the size and quality of the rooms upstairs. There is a bar, restuarant and balcony area on the first floor, with a guest computer station, which you have to pay for acccess to the internet, which seems a bit miserly, surely in such a hotel, the internet access could be given free of charge. We used the self catering facilities in the room a lot, so didnt use the bowl restuarant at all. The kitchen area is fitted with basic equipment, allowing us to cook basic meals, but with a bit of juggling around. There is a dishwasher, which seems a bit superfluous, and a two ring hob.
While we were there, there was a street market along Adderley Street for ten nights over the holiday period, closing off the road to traffic from 5pm until after the street cleaners had done there business at about 2am every night. Also a night carnival on new years eve, which started at 10pm until 3am with about sixty brass bands from all over the Western Cape area. This carnival was repeated on the afternoon of the 2nd January, which a public holiday, and this time the clearing up was completed about 1am, so beware of the extra noise over this period. It was very interesting, and colourful, and the hotels position offered the best views of the local celebrations.
Overall, and excellent choice of accomodation, and had that not been so good, we may not have stayed in one place for four weeks. Definately go again in the future.
Room Tip: Ask for a room high up, as there is no double glazing on the windows to cut out noise.
