“Just great”

We stayed in 7 Bayview Terrace and the house is awesome. It has everything you need and the service is fantastic.

Location is pretty good and the view from the balcony is outstanding. By far, it's the best house I've ever rented in my life.

Without any doubt, when I come back to Cape Town, I would rent the house again.

“4 Bayview, De Waterkant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We seem to have followed the previous review contributor in for a 3 night stay at 4 Bayview - 3 couples at the end of September 2011, with 5 friends/family from UK. It was the last 3 days of a 15 day tour of the Cape, and what a superb place to stay. We should have made it longer.

The admin and reception by Lynn could not have been better or more helpfully handled. Watch for the very steep location of De Waterkant's main office on Napier Street. As Lynn will remember, it can be a real clutch-burner trying to reverse out of street parking at the office with a big fully loaded vehicle!

The "cottage" itself was excellent, and the unexpected daily maid service was good and very trustworthy. As we were not expecting it we all left a number of things exposed in the rooms, and everything was in place when we returned. Even a 'lost" pair of sunglasses had been found and placed by the bed.

A single - tiny - item for attention was that one of the hand basin tap fittings in the master bathroom was very loose. Otherwise perfect.

The cottage benefited from a private secure parking in the courtyard which in our case was difficult to use due to the narrow street and people-carrier we had, but is a major asset in an area where street parking is at a premium.

The 360-deg views of Table Mountain, bay, waterfront, and city were excellent and - along with the standard and comfort of furnishings - made us wish we had more free time simply to spend at the cottage.

An excellent place for me to showcase South African accommodation to overseas visitors. My partner and I will continue to visit Cape Town from time to time, and have already decided that De Waterkant cottages will be our accommodation of choice. We both hold high standards and are not easily pleased or impressed. Well done!

“4 Bayview Terrace - Fantastic”

We spent 6 nights at the 3 bedroomed 4 Bayview Terrace although we only used the 2 upstairs bedrooms as we are 2 couples. Everything about this house is great - it's beautifully furnished, has a great location, well-equipped kitchen and the view is unbeatable! You can sit on the patio and look over the pool and the V&A Waterfront or relax on the roof terrace with 360 degree views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Cape Town City - absolutely amazing! The guys at the office were also lovely to deal with and made our stay a pleasure. If we go back to Cape Town we'll definitely be staying at one of De Waterkant Cottages :)

“42 Napier St was a delight 3 and 1/2 stars if we could”

Great location, very clean and warm (was in the winter). The staff was also great. A few gripes...The beds are super hard. I asked for an extra comforter though and it was brought in right away. Put one down to sleep on top of and it helped a bit.
We arranged transport to the airport and were picked up in an old car with non-working seat belts. The guy driving was sick! He was coughing and wiping his nose on his sleve the entire time. Totally ruined the end of a wonderful trip. If not for the transport I would have given this place 4 stars. Also, we could have taken a Taxi for the same cost and not had to deal with the sub-par transport service.

Hi there

Thank you for your feedback which we always appreciate.

Although I know you raised the issue of your airport pick-up when you arrived with our General Manager I would like to personally stress that we do take this incident very seriously and have done a thorough investigation.
Being a small company we do not have our own internal taxi service; we contract out to a local firm that, until your comments, we have never had any complaints and in fact only praise for the level of friendly professional service that is normally provided. I have discovered on the day of your pick-up, due to the high number of bookings with this company at this time, they, unbeknown to us sub-contracted out to a driver that we had never used before. Naturally we are not shrugging the blame but immediately spoke to the company to express our dissatisfaction and relaying your experience. All their own drivers are vetted however they did agree on this occasion that they had never used this sub-contracted driver before. We instructed them that we would not accept sub-contracted drivers that had not gone through the normal vetting proceedure. In addition all drivers that they use for our pick-ups will be given a guide detailing our standards and procedures and we have to personally meet them before agreeing for them to pick-up our guests. This we hope will go some way to make sure that this once off incident does not get repeated and we continue to provide a service that in the past has always been recommended.
You mention that there are other cheaper options of transport and although our rate for private taxis hire is still very competitive we do not hide the fact that you as a guest have a choice.
There is now a regular bus service to the Civic Centre in the centre of town which costs R53.00 per person; from there you can get a taxi. The average meter rate in a legal licensed taxis per kilometer is between R9-13.00. There is only one registered taxi firm that can wait and pick-up non pre-booked passengers at the airport; at present they only have saloon vehicles that can carry a maximum of four persons and cost approximately R280+/- from the airport into the CBD.

From your further comments I am happy that your enjoyed your visit and hopefully if you do decide to stay with us again and use our airport pick-up you will be satisfied with the service provided.

When you are in Cape Town its wonderfull to have your "own" housse.
It gives you such a freedom, its a home away from home.
The service at Waterkant cottages is great, such helpfull people. The cleaning lady´s are great to. And the housse it self is beautiful. You have got your own sitting room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms with both its own bathroom. You have got a fire place and a washing machine, wich is very handy if you are staying longer... Again great place and if I ever go back to Cape Town, this is the place where I wanna stay again!
