“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Central hotel and within walking distance of some tourist attractions: Company Gardens, Castle, Green Market Square. Within walking distance to train station which was very convenient for trip to Simons Town.

The hotel was nice. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was fine but as with all hotel breakfasts, it got boring after a while.

A lot of the negative reviews about this hotel was about the noise. Our room was right opposite the clubs/bars. Yes you can hear it. But I didn't get bothered by it at all. I can imagine some light sleepers would get disturbed, but if you live in London, like I do, then the noise really isn't anything to write home about.

The bathroom was rather odd. It didn't have a door, so if you're travelling with a friend it can get a bit weird knowing they can just walk past and see you showering naked. The wardrode and safe is just outside the bathroom opening, so not very convenient. Also, there is only a sliding screen partitioning the bedroom and the bathroom. But that can be closed, so no significant worries there.

There wasn't a large selection of TV channels - but that isn't a huge issue.

Tips:

1. The wine tour to Stellenbosch the hotel suggested was excellent! Was only 445 rand, 29 wines, 5 farms, included lunch. BARGAIN!

2. Get train to Simon's Town (only 25 rand return) and then there is a tour company just outside running tours from Simons Town to the Cape Point national park. (11am and 2:30pm) They'll take you to Cape point, Cape of Good Hope, you get to see baboons, ostriches. They charge 200 rand and you have to pay the 85 rand entrance fee. Works out much much cheaper than the tours which cost around 750 rand each! hgtravel.co.za (HGTS Travel Services)

3. If you want to go to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens get a bus!! Or at least get a bus home. We got taxi from the hotel there and it cost 120 rand. There is a Golden Arrow Bus outside exit 2 of the gardens, they charge only around 6 rand to take you back to Cape Town Bus Terminus (just outside the train station). SOO much cheaper!

“Great room and location - ignore the breakfast though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

The location is great - smack on Long Street, where all the action is. Staff was very friendly, and the rooms were good - great little bathroom, all was clean, bed was fine.

The breakfast, included, was terrible though - stay for the hotel, and just go for breakfast somewhere nearby, lots of good places...

Room Tip: top floors... less noise from Long Sreet at night, if you are not a all night party animal

Dear Mr. Judge

Thank you very much for your objective review! We noticed that you scored us 4 out of 5 for value, sleep quality, rooms and cleanliness and 5 out of 5 for service and location.

I must apologise profusely for the breakfast not being up to standard. As our Food and Beverage department was outsourced from the 1st of December, we were still experiencing a few teething problems at the time of your stay which have since been sorted out.

We hope very much that you will visit us again when next in Cape Town.

With kind regards,

Siranne van Onselen

“Fabalous staff, Great location”

I write this review on behalf of my parents who had a very short stay in Cape Town and needed help to make the best of their 1.5 days. They are both in their 80's and were celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.

The hotel upgraded my parents room and gave them a gift to celebrate. All unsolicited and very much appreciated.

I spent time emailing the hotel for help before they arrived and the staff were so helpful and pleasant, they were a pleasure to deal with. They booked a day trip in advance and arranged taxis to the airport, all done with extreme efficiency.

My parents found the hotel to be in a great location. It was a little noisy but they enjoyed bieng in a lively location. Their room was fab with views of Table Mountain one side and the street from the other window. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty with good service.

All in all we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and I want to yet again say a BIG THANK YOU.

“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

We spent six nights at the Urban Chic to celebrate my partner’s 60th Birthday. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The personnel were all very friendly and professional. The breakfasts were more than ample and served by friendly, helpful ladies. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and well serviced, with a well stocked mini-bar and coffee or tea making facilities. We are not deep sleepers, but closing the double glazed windows properly, kept out most of the weekend party noise from the street. Do not let people complaining about the noise, keep you from going to this wonderful hotel, which is quite affordable, especially when you are on a budget and want value for money. We shall definitely go back there. Johan Jordaan

“A Small Hotel With a Big Return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

The hotel is in a great location and the staff is top-shelf (Ashton at the front desk is great). The hotel may be small but the rooms are large enough for two people to move around without colliding into each other. And the view of Table Mountain from the hotel is incredible. The hotel is located on Long street, which houses a couple of bars and restaurants, so noise level on the block may not be suitable for a very lite sleeper, but as for me I did not have a problem with the noise level (it may be because I'm a New Yorker and use to a lot of noise). The hotel offers an excellent stay for an excellent price and breakfast is included, mmmmm!
