“Fantastic location and facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

This is the third time that I have stayed in the self catering apartments. The apartments themselves are great - equipped with everything that you need and the location is ideal. Fishhoek is a short walk away with its beach and shops etc. Kalk Bay is a short drive or 20 minute walk and has lovely shops, bars and restaurants. A great choice for staying in this part of South Africa with central Cape Town and other locations within easy driving distances

“Average option if cost is a concern”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Let me preface this by saying we stayed here during the World Cup when prices were skyhigh and availability was low in most places in the heart of Cape Town (CBD)...
The place is interestingly located..it's definitely convenient to get to wine country (Franschoek and Stellenbosch) and also to get to the Cape Point via Boulders beach...however being a fair distance away from CBD which prevents you from enjoying the vibrant nightlife which Cape Town has to offer...So if you're planning to make most of the city area I wouldn't recommend this place but are looking to explore the greater cape Town area and perhaps drive in for the day to see Table Mountain and some of the more frequented sites then this may be a good option...hope thats clear?
In terms of cleanliness this place is good the owners live in the section of the house below...we did not interact with them too much which was unfortunate as most of the places we stayed in South Africa the hosts were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make our stay more comfortable...having said that I cannot fault them as there was nothing we necessarily we required of them...
I would highly recommend the Underburgh Guest House in Cape Town..which is where we spent 2 nights also...

“Ideal place to stay, comfy and hospitable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2009

We lookd for a place out of the centre but where their are good beaches and where we can still get easy to things we want to see in Cape Town and the area about. So we end up at Clovelly Lodge. Wanted bed and breakfast but there was no space for us and Barry ask if we like an apartment with a kitchen insted. We went to see and loved it. Ended up staying much more than we think at first. Had everything we needed plus satellite. Only didn't have internet but their were internet cafes nearby in Fis Hook. Only had one problem with the acomodation, the television was stuck on a channel but we phone Barry and he come and fix it right away. Great little kitchen, comfy bedroom, good shower that had some power, loved the deck which had place to sit a table and a barbicue, nice staff. Very near the beach and very quiet. Can park safe inside and next to apartment. Really good value and would definitly tell a friend to go their. Also loved Kalk Bay with its good restaurants, Polana pub, Olympic Cafe, Theresa's curry, a fish and sushi place and really intresting shops and art and old things. Nice harbour too with great fish and chips. Best place we stayed in our time in South Africa.

“Great Apartments near Cape Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

We checked tripadvisor for feedback on Cape Town after we'd made half our bookings, including our stay at Clovelly Lodge. Then we saw that there were a couple of not-happy customers (although plenty of happy ones fortunately). So it was with some trepidation that we arrived there. Glad to report that all was well. Very well in fact! We had a great time and the apartment was just what we wanted, well-equipped, decent furniture and layout, spacious, the service was good, the pool was lovely, the environment was very peaceful, the owners were helpful and thoughtful. All in all, absolutely no complaints

“The worst”

Our stay at this place was very upsetting. The owners are cold, stingy and unconcerned. We booked the three days months before our trip and had to pay in advance. When we arrived from the US, we wanted to modify our travel plans and they refused to refund any money. That was the least of the problems. The place was very cold and the only heater was a gas heater. When Barry (owner) turned it on it leaked horrible fumes that irritated my eyes, nose and throat. He said that there was nothing wrong with it and it was my "hypersensitivity" . He didn't even check it. They didn't provide any bathroom amenities except for 1 small bar of soap for both the shower and sink. The bathroom mirrors were so high that we couldn't see in them. The sink faucets were separate, and the knob of the hot water in the shower fell off. He was stern about how to use the TV and satellite remotes, but the satellite didn't work anyway. The furniture was old, and the bed was hard. Barry gave us a small bottle of milk for the next day, but on our second day when we looked for it, we found he took it away! This place didn't resemble the web site at all. We had to leave after 2 days because the fumes made me very sick. They never called to find out how I was. I don't know how they could call it a 4 star. If I lived there, I would sue them for providing an unsafe environment.
