“what a complete waste of money as hotels go avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2011

We stayed here on new year eve complete disaster of a hotel room was mosquito infested. television in room didnt work told us was broken due to weather which was complete crap more like they wanted to save money. asked for money upfront and when we paid was no refund offered when we realised how bad it was charged us 800 rand and was a complete ghost hotel nobody was there to serve us be it if we had a query or anything else if there was an emergency even no staff member present at all. All lies what they say about the service improvements as it was below terrible even rooms were cold and noisy and the windows are not double glazed. promised a braai before we arrived that was to be supposably run all nite then they told us on arrival it was cancelled say they just wanted the booking. staff were ignorant when i complained and told me that they never had comments in relation to lack of service when i rang them to complain absolute nightmare breakfast was really bad small flies all over the food and also ants avoid at all costs not worth money just money grabbers in my opinion will make ur vacation miserable in every way. stayed in ashanti lodge for half the price and was so nice and that was a backpackers on richmond rd avoid hotel escape rip off prices with unfriendly staff

Hello,

I am the new owner. I just took over on January 8th.

I am very sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I cannot excuse the broken promises of the previous owners. As you can see, they were on their way out and obviously not trying very hard.

I can only tell you that we have brought in a new manager, Garreth, who is young friendly and full of life, laughter and ideas.

We immediately began cleaning and painting. We have all new linens and towels on order. They will be in very shortly!

We are almost ready to open up the bar. There will be a flat screen t.v. where anyone can buy and watch the game and have a few beers.

If you do decide to head back to Cape Town, I hope that you would consider allowing Garreth and myself to show you and your guest what we intend a Guesthouse esCape experience to be.

“Run down and tired”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

I had booked 7 nights in Escape, but on arrival found that the place is up for sale by auction and we were greeted by somebody thinking we were prospective purchasers. The whole place is tired and grubby with the carpets being worn and dirty. The stair carpet was dangerous in that there were places it was not secured and my wife slipped narrowly avoiding injury. The toilet seat was hanging off and the bedroom we were showed into was infested with flies. The towels on the bed were ancient and worn and I would not have used them even if we had stayed. Needless to say we told the manager that we would not be staying and expected our deposit to be returned as the accommodation is not fit for purpose. My opinion is that the place has been badly neglected because it is up for sale and it shows in the lack of cleanliness, decor and maintenance. I have contacted my credit card company to facilitate a refund but as were evidently the only ones booked in I expect the owner needs the cash desperately even though he is not entitled to it with the state of the rooms offerred. I only hope that if anyone buys it - the place is in a prime location - they put some investment in to to the place and addresses the obvious serious shortcomings. Guest house Escape - perhaps you would respond to this in an honest manner.

“definitely not 4 stars”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2008

I spent three nights in this Guest House I have found in internet and I must say that is definetely not a four stars accomodation.
First : apart for the deposit they have charged on my credit card, at the arrival (8,30 pm) the first thing they asked me was to pay all the amount in advance (never happened to me, but in any case if this is the rule let me make comfortable and I will do);
Second: I often chose a Guest House because they are warm than Hotels and you have a nice direct contact with the owner/manager. In this case nobody take care of you, it seems a ghost house. For instance: having breakfast (really pour!) nobody approch you to ask whatever you want to eat.
The position is really bad because of the noise of the cars (the accomodation in on a main road) and you can understand when somebody is taking a shower because of the noise of the old water pipe.
Third: after one night they changed my room with another one whitouth ask me absolutely nothing. I already found all my personal items in the new room.
On the other hand, the room was clean and comfortable but I will not came back there.

Dear Enzo
Thank you very much for your comments. We have improved our services.
e.g
1.We extended our breakfast room and now you can have breakfast on our sun deck overseeing signal hill and spectacular views to the Golf Course.
2. Our breakfast is now filled up with fresh fruits and baked pastries.
3. Staff went on a training course to better communicate and also that our service level has increased.
4. We hired more staff to assist so that you do not have a feeling no one is taking care of you.
5. A deposit is still required to secure your accommodation, however, the balance can be paid upon check out.
6. All our front rooms have noise - proof windows, which means that you can enjoy a peaceful sleep. We still believe the location is perfect as it is central to all the tourist attractions, e.g, Waterfront 10 min walk, beach, 5min walk and business centers.
7. We will make it up to you should you give us a second chance to show you that we have changed.

“A lick of paint definitely required”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2007

Our welcome was pleasant but even though we had paid a deposit of half the amount, we were asked to settle the bill on arrival. This was the ONLY guest house that did so. In addition we had to pay an extra fee for the use of our credit card - again the only guest house to charge us. Had they told us, we would have paid cash.

On the whole the place needed a good lick of paint and certainly the garden furniture was very very tired.

If you were the first up for breakfast you would get the pick of the selection, after that the staff didn't add to the food. For instance the fruit platter would be full at 8.00 and the same platter would be there at 9.00 so what was left was what you got. When we asked for some cheese as there was none, we were told that it had run out. It was the only guest house that I felt the food was limited.

The Guest house is on a busy main road and there are 3 locks to get thru before the key to your room. No privacy as the rooms are one next to the other - no private sitting areas.
The shower was so close to the wall that it was almost impossible to get under. There were no bathroom fixtures to put toiletries etc.

No secure parking - parking on the pavement or on the main road.

Staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in far superior Guest Houses for less.
Would recommend staying outside of town.

“Excellent!!! We loved it!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2007

My husband and I stayed at the guesthouse escape and we found it nothing but EXCELLENT!!!!!! The room was lovely and the host/ managment/ staff were always friendly, helpful, honest, fair and tried to go the extra mile, if there was something we needed and they were able to do something about it to help. The rooms especially have been decorated with love, heart and passion that it really made us feel special.

The fact that I was able to speak my native language was even more excellent. I am native German and it made me feel home and welcome in a foreign country.

I can only recommand Guesthouse escape as it is a great place if you are staying in Cape Town. Whenever I will visit Cape Town again, and that is mostlikely once a year, my first choice is and will always be ~ Guesthouse Escape~ an excellent "escape" to enjoy and relax in Cape Town.
