“delight for the senses!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

DDL is a delight for the senses! Always something delightful and interesting everywhere you look! We stayed in Freshly Underground which is designed fairly tame compared to the others. Make sure to double check the rooms and their amenities as each room is totally different. A welcome drink, anything you want from the stocked up bar, was very refreshing. Free coffee and desktop internet 24hrs/day. Balcony overlooking Long Street to see what's happening before heading out to numerous nearby restaurants and bars. Usually on-street day parking but very safe. Best of all was the excellent crew on hand, always with a smile, always ready to converse and show you "local" attractions. Toto made sure everything was complete when we checked-in. We met Wayne at the courtyard who was amazingly knowledgable on how to go around the city, sights to see, useful websites, what's authentic South African, hot spots for locals, tourist areas to stay away from , etc! We would have loved to hung out with him if only we had a few more days to stay.
We vowed to return to Cape Town and visit DLL again and perhaps stay at Mac Daddy too! Thanks DLL!!!

“A Great Place to Stay, would benefit from a 'clean up'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

We stayed in the Daddy Long Legs for 8 nights in January to celebrate our birthdays. A fantastic place to stay with a very friendly and helpful staff. The location is excellent and the concept fantastic. As we were staying for so long, we moved room every other evening so we got to see 4 of the rooms in total. However..... this boutique hotel was designed quite a few years ago now and some of the ‘Installations’ (as I feel one should consider the rooms) are becoming a trifle worn at the edges. This is a great pity as it did detract a little from the enjoyment when one found that something was broken or had been stolen by a previous occupant. We had a great idea on this. Why not rotate the installations? Have an artist redo one room every 6 months? In this way there would be two new rooms for us to come back and see each year and all of the rooms would be updated every 7 years. Our only other gripe was the standard of cleanliness, we saw a few roaches (one large enough to saddle and ride) in a couple of rooms. Was rather disgusted when one ran out of the top of my ruck sack and across my shoulders. Ughhhh! I can’t help feel that this was down to cleanliness, my lens cap rolled beneath the bed in ‘Open’. In retrieving it I was confronted by a rather grizzle sight – fluff, dust, hairs and sweet wrappers! A quick clean up will easily sort these issues. I would still recommend visiting DLL on any trip to Cape Town.

“Great, quirky and fun place to stay - definitely recommend it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011 via mobile

We stayed in the freshly ground room which was clean and fun. A vibrant change to most hotels in this price range. Service is good with a small bar in the lobby. Hotel is in a great location in cape town with the fun restaurants and bars around you. A great and unusual mid-range option. Their fancier sister hotel up the road has a great cocktail bar.

“Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2010

Great hotel with friendly staff.
They have 13 individual rooms, all individually designed!!!
The staff is very helpfull and friendly, if you have any queries about things to visit, how to get there,... Ask them they love to help you out and give you advice.
There is always an artexhibition going on at the reception/lobby and the public toilets in this hotel are a must see!!!
They don't have their own restaurant but right downstairs there is a place called R-Caffé where you can get breakfast and lunch and for dinner, well Longstreet, the street where this hotel is located on has plenty of restaurants where you can go for dinner. For a nice snack check out Cape to Cuba. Lola's is another great place for breakfast.

“Fun Beyond My Wildest Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

A colleague recommended this hotel and it is probably one of my favorite places I've ever stayed. Far from the 'standard' hotel feel, this adorable boutique hotel was WAY more than I anticipated. The staff was very friendly, and informative, willing to answer a million questions. I stayed in the "Photo Booth" room in which you could never get bored looking at the hundreds of little snapshots making up a much larger mural. I loved the free coffee, free internet and central location. As a solo traveler I was a little concerned walking around alone, but with the location, you really didn't have to to find hundreds of restaurants and bars to spend away the night.

I would have liked a TV or radio -- something to make noise in the night, but otherwise I had absolutely no complaints and would stay here again and again...I just wish there were more in other cities!
