“No chilly banality of a 5-star hotel here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

There is jolly well NOTHING bad to say about Blackheath Lodge. Compared with the chilly banality of a 5-star hotel, this place is heaven on earth...stylish, personal, sophisticated, warm and convenient and liberally sprinkled with interesting guests but with none of the hokey, stifling over-intimacy of your usual B&B. Our room was excellent - upstairs, spacious and with its own little sitting area and a small view of the sea, strikingly decorated and not at all boring. Antony and Michelle are perfect hosts and you can tell they love their lifestyle business. Loved their staff, Marmie the obliging and smiling cook and Portia our lovely waitress, the handsome Jean-Claude, Peter, in fact all of them. This was our first visit to Cape Town in 35 years and Blackheath Lodge anchors our memories of a wonderful visit.

“Wonderful Lodge and People.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at Blackheath at the beginning of an18 day tour of Cape Town and the Garden Route, and it was a brilliant start to the tour. We arrived early in the morning at Cape Town airport and were picked up by a car and driven to the Lodge with a commentary of the areas we were travelling through. We arrived at the Lodge at about 8.00am and given a wonderful breakfast with freshly made pancakes and full English. Our room was ready at about 9.30 so we were able to unpack and shower straight away. The room was beautiful and large, with both air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The ensuite was also large with a very large shower cubicle. The room looked out over the garden, terrace and pool. The owners Antony and John really put a tremendous effort in to make sure your stay is perfect. They provide local mobile phones for use, book taxis, recommend restaurants, book the tables and even ensure you get the best tables in the restaurant. They really do work very hard to ensure everyone is comfortable and at ease. Nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast was taken on the deck overlooking the pool and garden and prepared by two lovely ladies who cooked everything freshly as required, no hot plates here. In the evening, there was an honesty bar and Jean Claude ( a giant of a man ) was always at hand to welcome you back from a night out or pour another glass of wine.
When we booked the Lodge Antony had offered to arrange out tour based on places he had stayed at himself. We agreed to this and before we left Antony gave us a file with detail of the places we were staying at, maps, directions, and summaries of places of interest. A really professional itinerary . On completing the tour everything was perfect, no problems at all and a wonderful safari at Shamwari which we would definitely recommend.
Blackheath Lodge is a 5 star establishment with real personal service and wonderful staff. If visiting Cape Town we would definitely recommend staying here.

“Wonderful warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We were there for a week.
The location, owners, atmosphere, service and interior were perfect.
I loved that they have two cats living in the hotel and really felt like at home.
Quiet place. Looks like all the guests are visiting every year, so suggest to book in advance to get a good room. Ours was not big, but clean.
The hotel has a swimming pool so you can stay there for a day if it's not a beach season. Always good advise where to go from the owners or staff.
Visitors are quite diverse - young and elder couples, group of friends, families, so I cannot define it's "type" - everybody respect each other's privacy.

Warm memories and thanks to the owners and my best recommendations.

Room Tip: Rooms with the windows into the inner yard only. Otherwise, you'll hear every guest car parking.

“Going the Extra Mile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I was visiting Cape Town not for a holiday but for family reasons. From the moment I arrived at Blackheath Lodge, to be greeted cordially by Michelle, I was treated wonderfully well. Owing to a very early flight arrival from London, I couldn't yet get access to my room. It didn't matter: I was able to shower in the facility outside by the pool, change into fresh clothes and have a delicious breakfast so that when I met up with my brother I was fresh and raring to go! When I was able to get into the room, I was mightily impressed with the spaciousness, light, cleanliness and decor. Stay in a room at the top of the lodge if you can. Nothing was too much of a problem for Michelle, with her ready smile and hospitality and this extended, too, to all the staff. An unusual and very heart-warming aspect of Blackheath Lodge is the commitment that Antony and John have made to ensure that their staff and children are provided for. There is no shortage of guesthouses in Cape Town: I am delighted that I chose Blackheath Lodge.
