On 4 January 2012, I was placed in the Southern Sun on Strand Street along with a large group of passengers from the Emirates flight that had to perform an emergency landing.

The staff were fantastic. In true Cape Town fashion they were speedy with the check-in of the bus load of disgruntled passengers and were friendly and accommodating. They worked miracles in supplying the hungry souls of that journey (we checked in at about 17:00-17:30, most of us had not eaten since breakfast time as it was a lunch time flight) with a very well put together buffet an hour later. They did well to do a few seatings in order to not overwhelm the size of their dining room and the staff were well informed as to what our allowances were.

The concierge and reception had good up to date information for the passengers and their overall execution of high standards of hospitality throughout our stay was very well done.

Having worked in hospitality and more specifically hotels before, I am grateful and applaud them for their empathy and professionalism that they maintained throughout.

A huge thank you to all at the hotel. The accommodation was good, the food was reflective of comfortable South African cuisine and, most of all, the staff were a brilliant showcase of what Cape Townian hospitality should be.

We stayed at the Cape Sun for your Honeymoon! The service, accommodation, food, ambience and rooms were excellent!! The staff were so friendly and made us feel welcome and looked after us at all times. We were spoiled rotten! Thank you for making sure that our honeymoon was a romantic and memorable occasion.

We stayed at the Cape Sun from 27 Dec to 29 Dec. We had a beautiful view of the Waterfront/sea.
We found the staff to be most courteous and friendly and always offering excellent service.

I have stayed here recent years maybe 20 nights in total. I keep coming back and that itself is a good indicator that the hotel is great :)

The hotel is located right in Cape Town CBD (Central Business District) very near the vibrant Long Street, Green Market Square and St Georges Mall. They have valet parking so just bring your rental directly to the entrance and get out. When you want your car back, just place a call and it will be outside in 20 minutes or so. Very convenient indeed!

Rooms are very nice and the king-size bed gives a good sleep. Air-conditioning, tv with sat-channels, work desk, fridge and a safe. Shower is combined with the bathtub. This can be ok but Southern Sun has a configuration that will make water leak to the floor. I hate this. You must be really careful when taking a shower and use towels to clean up the mess. I wish they could address this flaw.

Staff is very friendly and will help you with anything. This is one of the reasons why I keep returning to this hotel. Last visit they helped me to get a rental car even though everything was sold out.

The hotel has roomservice but it ends 23.00 which is not really ok for a luxury hotel. Food is acceptable but not worth it unless you really don't want to go outside the hotel room. You can find much better food on Long Street or other restaurants in Cape Town.

If you want to book this hotel, join their frequent guest programme, login with this on their web site and book from there. Then you get a special discount. This hotel isn't expensive considering what you get. Equal hotels in Cape Town can charge twice.

The hotel has an impressive lounge and bar area on the ground floor. My only minor complaint here is that they should have beer on tap.

All in all, this is a great hotel and I will for sure come back despite the minor flaws.
