“Great location......great hotel!”

I absolutely loooooved the location of this hotel. I was able to walk to many of the tourists attractions from the hotel and it is just a short, inexpensive taxi ride to Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the daily evening cookie was delicious! The hotel has it's own restaurant and bar (and room service). The food is really good here. My room was nice, neat, clean, and orderly with access to cable television and free Internet. The only issue I had was that the room was extremely small (which is not bad since it was just me, but for more than one person this would have been an issue). I'm guessing they have larger rooms for larger parties. Stay here!!!

“Cape Town Hotel, City Centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I selected this hotel via recommendations based on Tripadvisor reviews. The hotel has an excellent City Centre location. It is two blocks from the District Six Museum in one direction and three blocks from the Slavery Museum, Company Gardens and other cultural sites. The V and A waterfront is a 5 minute taxi ride away.

The hotel has a very modest appearance from the street. However, once inside, the reception and lobby area are very welcoming and comfortable. I reserved a single deluxe room which was average sized, comfortable and clean. My rate included included breakfast and wireless internet, which were priorities for me.

The service was top-notch. I was cordially greeted at the door by staff, assisted with my luggage, and checked-in promptly. Within a few minutes my luggage was delivered straightaway to my room. Throughout my visit, staff were friendly and cordial.

The most pleasant surprise was the dining room. It had an attractive decor, with an abundance of natural light via full-length windows during the day and soft, calm lighting at night. Service for breakfast and dinner was attentive and friendly. Breakfast rate included buffet and ala carte items. I was most pleased with my dinner. Attentive service, fresh ingredients with thoughtful presentations, and satisfyingly tasteful. The wine list featured quality South African wines at very reasonable prices. In all, my dinner was top quality and relatively inexpensive (appetizer, filet mignon with sides and mushroom sauce, wine, caffe au lait, and tip) for about $35 USD.

If you have not been to Cape Town before, do not be alarmed when you are advised to be sure to take taxis at night instead of walking. This is simply a fact of life in Cape Town. There a number of reliable taxi companies in CT (you can ask concierge for recommendations). I have used Cabco and Sport with consistently good results. Example, I used Sport24hrs for my prearranged transfers to and from Cape Town airport to Townhouse Hotel. The quoted rate was R200 per trip which much less than other quotes I received. I was greeted at airport and picked up from hotel promptly with a very courteous and careful driver.

“Such a pleasure!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I reviewed this hotel once before and had a very pleasant stay. I thought I may have just been lucky, but I spent 3 days there this week and was even more than pleasantly satisfied. I booked a budget room on the hotels own website and although small, it was very comfortable and had everything i needed for a short business stay, including free internet, which is something a rate highly as a lot of hotels really rip the ring out of their internet charges.

What really made this stay most pleasant when it could have been a disaster, was the friendly and wonderful staff who, when they heard i had left my cell phone charger at home, asked around their staff and thanks to Lennox, who lent me his charger every night, my disaster was avoided. I cannot reiterate the absolute friendliness of the staff at the Townhouse, it makes up for any other minor flaws or poor training etc and just makes one's stay so very pleasant.

Although the hotel also has smoking rooms, at a lot of hotels, especially in Asia, this results in linen even though washed, still smelling of smoke. The linen at the Townhouse was good quality and really nice and fresh smelling.

Their breakfast (included if you book on their website) is a great plus and will keep you going all day, which is good if you are on business and dont have time to stop for meals.

I also found their bar prices extremely modest and would recommend their house wine as they dont choose cheap wine for this either.

Room Tip: There are exec rooms and they are recommended if you are more than one to a room.

“Adequate, albeit quirky”

I attended this hotel for a business meeting and brought along my hubby. As other reviewers noted, this hotel has separate rates for 'single' versus 'double rooms' (i.e., 1 person vs 2), and so I was charged an extra fee to have my hubby with me. Not a huge amount (200 Rand for 2 days), but still a little unusual. The room we were assigned (905) was very nice, but my husband is 6'5" and barely fit into the shower. The hotel staff were also more insistent than most in attempting to steer us to their restaurant. When we demurred, they were visibly unhappy to the point of being unfriendly. All in all, this hotel was fine, but not one I would rush to return to.

“Nice Property but beware of "single" room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Overall this is an excellent property located in Cape Town CBD. Situated near to the District Six Museum, Castle of Good Hope, and Parliament, the property offers quality accommodation. Car Parking is adjacent to the hotel and, although, you have to drive up 7 floors, the car park links directly to the hotel's 7th floor! Parking was chargeable at a very reasonable R45 per night.

You should beware of the "single" room! Room 310 was completely unacceptable! The room is beyond small and cannot fit one reasonably sized person and a suit case! I am surprised that the SA Government allows any hotel to offer a room so small in size; it is a health and safety issue! Upon arrival I made clear that this room would not be acceptable and, after some prevarication, I was moved to another room. The room I was eventually allocated was large, comfortable and had clean beds, decent shower, and good (complimentary) working internet!

One problem was the air conditioning, it does not work properly at night (or more likely the hotel attempts to economise by obstructing the functionality).

Food was ok, if a little overpriced. Despite the flaws this is a hotel I would recommend.

Room Tip: Do not under any circumstances accept a "single" room, especially room 310!
