“Great choice for business and pleasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I visited Cape Town for business for a few days. Although I normally stay at the Radisson Blu, this was a great choice. Although it is near the main freeway into town from the airport, the hotel has excellent soundproofing so I had no traffic noise. The facilities are fantastic. On the 19th floor is a small (12.5m-ish, 2 lane wide) indoor swimming pool, plus spa, plus sauna. If you come, you must bring your bathers and have a swim since the views are incredible over the busy port and harbour. The same view continues in the sauna, with floor to ceiling windows on making up 2 of the 4 walls of the sauna. I only had breakfast but it catered for all nationalities (english, continental, asian breakfast foods in the buffet)
- rooms: the standard rooms were large and well equipped including a coffee machine (from memory, a nespresso or equivalent). The rooms were well fitted, good quality tiles/taps/large bath and bath products. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and lived up to their "dream sleep" title. More modern and international than the Radisson Blu (although the Radisson Blu in Cape Town does have exceptional views from the breakfast / bar area over the water).
-Service: can be a bit of a worry but not here - true 5 star service. We also organised a car through the hotel. It came with a good driver, was a Mercedes C-class with leather interior - looked brand new and the driver did drive safely and was courteous. It also came with fresh sparkling water which was a nice touch.

Room Tip: As for a room with a view over the docks - lots of interesting things to see and no traffic noise (g...

Everything you would expect of a 5 star hotel. Spacious rooms, would rather breakfast wasn't included as often don't eat in the hotel.

“A Good Choice”

We spent 8 nights at The Westin Cape Town and were thoroughly impressed. The hotel itself was very nice, with good facilities and great breakfasts. The hotel room was spacious, modern, comfortable and very functional. The hotel is well located - easy access to V&A Waterfront and the city. We would like to thank all the staff, those on the frontline and those behind the scenes, who made our stay very pleasurable.

“LOVED it - only positive things to say”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Cape Town Westin for 7 nights in January 2012 while on our honeymoon. We had a deluxe room on the 15th floor.
We have only wonderful, positive things to say about our stay at the westin. the staff there were incredibly professional, polite and accommodating. the hotel was beautiful, and our room was very spacious and bright and clean and comfortable. the maids came twice a day (morning and night) which was nice. the breakfast was incredible - they served everything you could possibly think of to eat or drink for breakfast. we LOVED the breakfast. the hotel has a shuttle every half hour to and from the waterfront, which is very easy and convenient. the guest services desk helped us with everything we needed, from booking tickets to the cablecar to ordering late night delivery to organizing a driver to take us to and from the casino. also the spa was fantastic - i had the best pedicure of my life there. they have a waterbed room - literally a room of big warm waterbeds to relax in - it was incredibly luxurious. and the gym was awesome too. we have nothing but praise for this hotel!
the only comment i can possibly think of is that sometimes the wifi didnt work (most of the time it did, but there were a couple times when it did not). also i felt the food prices at the restaurant for room service were a little expensive. also - before coming i was concerned that the hotel didnt have an outdoor pool (they have an indoor pool) but when i asked the guest services about my options for going to an outdoor pool, it turned out they had an arrangement with the hotel across the street to use their pool!!! so we got to go to an outdoor pool after all, and didnt have to pay anything extra for it (other than being polite and ordering drinks there etc). also the hotel rooms dont have balconies but for me that wasnt a disadvantage, because it made the room bigger.
so... mostly pros and very few cons. highly recommended!! enjoy!!

Room Tip: I recommend the deluxe room on a high floor

“Very nice property in an excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I spent 5 nights at the Westin Cape Town as part of a longer trip in South Africa. I chose the hotel based on its central location, 5-star rating, and because I am a platinum member in the SPG program.

The positives:
- very nice rooms, especially after being given a nice suite upgrade
- very clean with good housekeeping
- nice breakfast options in the restaurant or the executive lounge
- free shuttle to waterfront
- easy access to highways and the rest of Cape Town
- hop on/off bus stops at the Hotel
- free internet access provided
- nice reception area and lobby
- beautiful gym area, including the sauna

The negatives:
- Executive lounge is open to everyone and this made it very crowded. It's unacceptable to have to wait for a breakfast table in the lounge, when free access is a perk as a platinum member. There were a couple of days where I was faced with a 30-minute wait for my included breakfast, or I would have had to go to the restaurant and pay full price. Platinum/gold members seemed to be an afterthought.
- The room got noise from the highway, and there were also regular creaking sounds - presumably due to the windy conditions.
- Internet: if it's free, then what is the point of the access codes? They seemed to hand them out to anyone who asked, and it was annoying to have to get a new one every 24 hours.
- Computers with internet access in the lobby only worked part of the time.
- service was efficient, but rarely very friendly or welcoming

In general, a very pleasant stay with some minor inconveniences. I think this is a good option in Cape Town, but did not feel that the hotel takes care of platinum members as well as some of the other Westins.

Dear cougrz007

Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to post your comments. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your room, our breakfast in the Westin Executive Club, the free shuttle to the Waterfront and our Arabella Spa.

I reviewed your comments regarding your stay at the Westin Cape Town. We do take all comments seriously and appreciate all the feedback we can get. I do apologize for the waiting period you had during breakfast. You will have noticed that the hotel was very busy during your stay and even though it not an excuse, it does become challenging to accomodate our prefrerred guests during times like these.
The cracking noises you experienced are when temperatured rise and fall and the glass panels used on the outside facade of the hotel contract and release. Unfortunately this is part of the construction of the hotel and beyond our control, as it is weather permitting.
Yes we do offer free wi-fi to our guests and in most Starwood Hotels a code is given to our guests to make use of this free offer, it is part of our procdures and I am sorry if you found it annoying, I will address it up with our Internet Serivce provider for follow up.

Once again thank you for staying with us at the Westin and I look forward to welcome back when next your travels take you to Cape Town.

Be well,
Friedrich Schaefer
