“Breakwater Lodge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed in this hotel between 1-7 Feb. As many reviewers stated, the hotels location is great, very safe to walk to Waterfront in 3-4 minutes. The rooms are newly renovated, no complaints. The staff was friendly and helpful. I believe this is the only reasonable priced hotel if you want to stay at waterfront -and you should do so, if you ask me-

The only drawback is, the rooms are not very soundproof, on our first night it was very windy at night, and all the sound was inside the room.

“Excellent value for the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

A typical Protea property: no luxury, reliable quality. The location is absolutely perfect for Waterfront visitors: 5 minutes walk for the hotel. The fact that a former prison has been transformed into an education/hotel complex makes this place special for seminars etc.

“Great value for a Waterfront location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

At the last minute, we were able to arrive early in SA and had some "bonus" days in Cape Town, prior to coming back there after a safari. Since we wanted to watch our costs, I found this on Orbitz three days before for a great rate. I was a bit skeptical and didn't expect much, but it was a fantastic location at the Waterfront. The room was decent and overlooked the courtyard. It was a bit unusual to be in a hotel that was part of a Graduate School, but we were hardly in the room and never even saw a student. Front desk staff was helpful and we did not eat at the hotel, so don't have any fedback on that. There was a small fitness room that was adequate for a brief workout, but it was in the other building.

I would say if you are on a budget and want a location at the Waterfront for a few days, good place to stay.

“Great Location & Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

If you want to be near the V&A Waterfront, this hotel is about a 5 minute walk away. Once a prison, the main building of the hotel is used for classrooms by the Graduate School of Business, Cape Town. My room was located in Block "C" where 2 restaurants and a lounge may be found. Recently renovated, the room was clean, well appointed and roomy. If it's fancy amenities you're looking for, you wont find them here. You will find friendly and helpful staff, a safe quiet place to relax and all the day and nightlife you want at the V&A. I would definitely stay her again.

This hotel is wonderful.
We arrived too early to check in but our luggage was taken care of, and the friendly, helpful staff were attentive when we returned and checked in.
Room was great - so clean and modern - and very well lit (unusual for a hotel room)
Breakfast was lovely - with a great choice at the buffet restaurant.
Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Table Mountain also have the sunrise. Fantastic blackout curtains, but blinding when yo...
