I wobbled before choosing this place: was it here or Cape Grace? Don't know of course about the latter but I thought the 'Pink Lady' was a gas.
Super comfortable room (didn't get mountain view but so what?), great pool, excellent service everywhere, high tea with cucumber sandwiches (!), film wallies to watch all over the place and laugh about, nooks and crannies to sit in while you sip whatever, just fun.
Would totally recommend. Planet restaurant bit of a let-down though.

A trulygreathotel visit spoiled by equipment failures in our room. General manager and chiel concierge showed great concern and ameliorated situation. Still lovethehotel but saddenedbytheexperience because our memories put it on a pedestal. Still recommend but hope management takes dramatic action to ensure roomsareperfectbeforeguestmoves in. The site and service make the hotel one of the finest in the world. I do not hesitate to steer friends to stay.

It is almost a year ago now since we stayed at the Mount Nelson, I still think about this place often!
We went to Cape Town for a wedding in March 2011 and decided to stay here for the last two nights of our trip as the wedding was also here. My only regret is that we did not stay here longer!

Absolutely nothing is too much trouble and the service is just incredible. The only criticism I can think of is that they do not have the facilities at the Adult Only pool to cater for specific drinks, however, If you want one.... They will simply walk through the grounds to the main bar and get it for you!

This truly was a magical stay and If we ever return to Cape Town I will be back to the "Pink Lady" in a heart beat.

Its when you stay for extended periods of time in hotels that you realize that service and staff are as important as the amenities and the rooms. The Mount Nelson lives up to your expectations. Yes it is a little old world/colonial but the mix of guests livens up the atmosphere and the bar is always a good distraction.
I would say that with the amount of rooms ( over 100 nights) I rented for my crew and I that I would have expected the manager and guest services to propose a little more and to introduce themselves... but other than that all is as it should be in this elegant hotel surrounded by beautiful 'Edenish' gardens. In Cape Town, it is a must.
