Bookings made hassle free, extremely friendly and competent staff. The rooms are neat and clean and the size of the room is more than adequate. Love the free coffee, cookies and ice tea that I found in my room! DSTV in room with good channel selection on offer. The restaurant food and bar are fabulous, also a swimming pool outside. The hotel is close to a shopping mall and Chef Pons restaurant around the corner (you must have the Thai red-chicken). Very hospitable!

We have mixed feelings about the garden Court De Waal. The service is excellent, but the hotel is generally very dated and is truly a 'budget' hotel. That's not to say that the Garden Court is a bad hotel, its a basic hotel! If you are accustomed to more I suggest spending the extra money at staying at the Cullinan, though for a short business trip the hotel is quite satisfactory.

The good:
1. Richard Keet is a superb manager. He is willing to going the proverbial extra mile to satisfy his guests. He is friendly and understanding. I cannot compliment him enough.
2. We spent the last 2 nights of our stay in what seemed to be a newly renovated room. This room was far superior to the standard room that we had previously had. The room was well sized, had a nice view of the city, was modern and clean. Well done to Richard Keet for trying his best to satisfy our (picky) wants and transferring us to this room. The hotel would be far better if every room was as modern as this.
3. The staff were generally very helpful.

The very average:
1. The room we had initially was very outdated - the air conditioner was loud and the plumbing was louder. I realize that the Garden Court is a budget hotel - but this does not mean that the rooms need to be so dated and noisy. We have stayed at the Garden Court in Umhlanga, which has lovely brand-new rooms despite its budget status.
2. The pool area is nice to sit at (there are well maintained garden and comfortable chairs. However, there were no waiters around to take orders at the pool area despite the pool being quite busy that day. This is a big oversight even for a basic hotel.
3. The breakfast was very basic - even when compared to other similar hotels such as the Garden Court Umhlanga

after being on a msc cruise and waiting three hours on my luggage as the crane broke down before getting of the ship,this hotel was very welcoming clean and the breakfast was to die for

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Staff & Management at the De Waal Garden Court Hotel for the outstanding excellent service we received from Them.
The service that we Received from The De Waal Garden court was top rated right from the Start of our enquiry for accommodation for The EP Karate group as we attendended the South African Children’s Karate Competition in Cape Town.

Person I especially need to mention is Natalie Daly who assisted with our reservations was totally outstanding and she have got valued patience as we all know with group bookings it can be daunting with constant changes. Up to our arrival Natalie always had a friendly personality on the phone and always willing to assist us with any enquiry and changes and she made sure that she booked us how we planned to put the groups together. A very Big THANK YOU AND THUMBS UP!!!! For the outstanding excellent service that you provided in ensuring from check-in to departure was smooth and ensuring that our karate group did not have any hiccups with the accommodation.

I must also say that when we arrived at the Garden Court De Waal the staff was extremely helpful and yet so friendly and very professional from the front desk and the Concierge they just made the groups check-in so easy with no actual hassle. I must mention also that they were so flexible with one of our parents that came in early as she and her son Travelled by bus overnight and she arrived early in Cape Town and she went to the hotel before check-in time but they checked her in so that she could freshen up and relax. This is the type of service that is very rare and hard to Find!!! Patricia, Freddie and all the Front office staff A very BIG THANK! For your great personalities, friendliness and your smile keep it up!

I also want to express my gratitude to the rest of the hotel staff the dining room staff the kitchen staff you made our stay a memorable one as the food was outstanding and not to mention the good quality scrumptious breakfast that our Karate Group thoroughly enjoyed. We were laughing so that the kids could not wait in the morning the Have their ‘5 – Course’ breakfast as there was so much variety to choose from. A big THANK YOU!

Our parents from the Karate Group so thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness from the Hotel staff and the comfortable accommodation that some of them even extended their stay at the De Waal Garden court.

In closure I just want to say once again a very BIG THANK YOU TO ALL STAFF at the De Waal Garden Court, keep up the excellent service and you will see me visiting you more often and even our EP Karate Group!!!!
