“absolute heaven!”

Without a doubt South Africa has to be the most rewarding of my travels which started in 1972. Terrific safaris, savory cuisine, wonderful hospitality, not a way to describe this incredible trip; topped by One & Only, one of the most beautiful hotels I have been fortunate to stay at and beyond all expectations. My suite was never lacking in an array of amenities, including fruit, toiletries, the panoramic views offered by the picturesque window....simply amazing, exceptional service, great bar lounge area; my only regret was leaving it after just 3 nights. I am anxious to return, a trip to die for!

“The place to stay on the Waterfront!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Just returned from a week long holiday in South Africa. First the Kapama Game reserve for Safari followed by the ultimate opulence at the One&Only in Cape Town.

First sight as you enter the bar and lounge area directly from the front doors is a panoramic picture window displaying the iconic Table Mountain as if it had been placed there just for your pleasure.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the fixtures and fittings are the very highest quality. The rooms all have tremendous views and are fantastically well appointed with all the facilities you could possibly want or need.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel as we dined out and various venues on the waterfront and in the Winelands but the spread every morning would have satisfied the fussiest of eaters. All with excellent service thrown in.

With visits to Cape Point, Boulders Beach to see the penguins, Stellenbosch and Franchock in the Winelands and of course a journey to the top of the mountain, this trip was one never to forget.

Cape Town is a wonderful city and the Waterfront is certainly the place to stay. Have stayed at Cape Grace before and absolutely loved the grand style but the modern and cosmopolitan feel of the One&Only just pips it !!

Enjoy !!

“Very nice place”

We took 3 rooms here last week for a friends trip to CPT. There really is nothing to complain about - the rooms are huge (60+ sq m), have decent views from both sides of the building (either the sea over the Waterfront or the lake / marina around the spa) and are very well equipped. Huge bathrooms (perhaps a little light on toiletries - no toothbrush, razor - and as we were on hand baggage only we couldn't steal the shower gel or shampoo as it was in 200ml bottles!). Large beds, Nespresso machine, good turn down, decent sized balcony.

All our rooms were in the main buiding so I couldn't compare with the rooms on the 'island' by the pool. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the main building, though, and you get great views. The marina rooms are low rise (2 stories max) and surrounded by flats or the main hotel building, so the view will be poorer. You will also need to walk outside to get to/from the restaurants if you stay there.

Excellent staff who were very switched on. Obviously the hotel is expensive (this is peak season) but actually the food and drink were very, very reasonable - perhaps the cheapest five-star I have ever visited! Pool was very quiet with never more than a handful of people there, which was good. Didn't try the restaurants except for breakfast which was well done. Free valet parking which was a nice touch, especially as we took the car out every day.

My only 'surprise' is that the hotel was smaller than I imagined. When you see photos, you see large blocks on all sides of the marina / pool island. However, these are all apartments and nothing to do with the hotel, so you only have the one main building and the island rooms. It is actually a more intimate hotel than I was expecting. Highly recommended if the rooms rates are acceptable to you.

“Brilliant accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

we arrived early, about 10am, from our cruiseship as we had preadvised the Hotel at reservation time. The check-in was fast but not attentative, the room was not yet ready, pls. wait in the lounge. He seemed to have forgotten to mention it will take hours, we did only know that after placing a query. at check-in we also asked to reconfirm our flight 3 days later and provided all the details, he seem to have forgotten to pass it on, e.g. no answer on the issue.
Beside this bad start we had very good service and a marvelous room, spacious, good size bathroom etc. The Hotel is new, for the world championship, and has a great loaction just 1 min away from the V&A waterfront shops, restaurants etc, easy to get around.
It also has a swimmingpool hidden on an island on which also rooms are available, good place to relax after the walking and heat.
We tried both Resturants in the Hotel:
Reuben - excellent breakfast choice and good selection and quality for dinner
Nobu - japanese, very good and fresh dishes, sitting at the bar we could watch the chef preparing the food, great combinations and taste but also great presentation.
Very good place but the room had its price.
