“Great location, variable rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2010

I would struggle to know whether to recommend De Waterkant House or not. We had booked for a twin room and initially were given a lower ground, (small) double room which did not look like it had been redecorated in some time. For what we were paying this was very disappointing. However, having pointed out that we booked a twin, they very quickly were going to move us. In fact they ended up just giving us two rooms. The other room was significantly bigger and nicer than the first one, so there is clearly quite a variation in quality. Breakfast (which is at a cafe nearby) was fine but nothing special. Reception was very helpful, though, and the location was ideal for walking to the V&A and around Bo Kaap and to driving to other locations.

“OH WOW!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2009

Quaint guest house with an amazing atmosphere and aura. The house feels like home but with that something extra. The beds are large and comfortable and you awake to the smell of "tannie sarie's" rusks being baked or the smel of coffee brewing. Tannie Sarie is the heart of the guest house and her alone creates a home from home.

The village is amazing with an eclectic mix of people ranging from your arty types to your more reserved gentlemen. Young and old clearly love the vibrancy of the village, and, what is not to love, the cobbled streets to the brighlty coloured houses and village feel.

I recommend this village to anyone who opts for something BETTER than a hotel as it is more fun. Anything goes in the village. from beautiful women who are tanned to sexy gay men with good bodies.

“Nice and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2007

We stayed at the Waterkant House for 5 days. It is not for the staff at the reception you have to go. But there is a little secret about this specific place and this is Sarie, who is a pearl. Like a mama she is reading your wishes. We stayed at the Courtyard Room, very small, though it was quiet. The toilet might get a renovation, but well, we felt very ok, doing some sightseeings, walked around the corner for nice and excellent restaurants. We felt lucky to have made this experience.
