We were originally booked into another hotel in Camps Bay who, due to flood damage, cancelled with a few days to go before our trip. They arranged the transfer of our booking to Ezard House, and boy how lucky were we.
The directions to the hotel from the airport were first class and we were able to check in at 11am in the morning, which was welcome after an overnight flight. As soon as we arrived Don, the owner, and his staff made us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble.
The room we had, think it was Ocean View 2 was spectacular. Comfy bed, views of the Atlantic and Lions Head from the large balcony with seating and table, comfy sitting room area, TV with loads of channels, nicely appointed bathroom with large bath and walk-in shower. Complementary toiletries provided and lots of towels, bathrobes etc. There was also a dressing room area with plenty of space to unpack, plus a safe.
Breakfast was not subject to any specific times, as and when you wanted it and where you wanted it and after the usual coffee/tea, juice, cereals etc, the chef of the day would cook almost what you wanted or would suggest something....all very nice.
After doing our own thing during the day we ate each night at the hotel. Bit more expensive than other restaurants in the area but what price good food, wine and the ambience.
At 7.30pm we went to the bar for complementary Sundowners, a glass of good South African wine. We would sit and watch the sun melt slowly into the Atlantic whilst studying the menu and choosing the wine with the assistance of the very friendly staff.
Dinner could not be faulted at all. Good choice and always well presented and most importantly it tasted great. If the weather allows ask to eat under the stars on the balcony.
We can highly recommend the Seafood Platter, but allow 24 hours to allow chef to purchase the goods. Well worth the money....and despite a challenge from the chef, we did finish it.....just
Every single member of staff was friendly, helpful and after 4 days there we felt like part of the family. The owner came and chatted with us a couple of times and he has succeeded in making Ezard House the best hotel I have ever stayed in, and there have been a few over the years. We cannot wait to return to Cape Town and stay with Don and his team.
The hotel has nice gardens to walk round, Koi Carp pools and views to the rear of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles. Camps Bay itself is a nice town with lots of Police and Security staff around, the motto appears on road signs as "Crime is Not an Option" and we certainly felt safe at all times in that area.
All in all a fantastic hotel....what's stopping you?
