“Disastrous (and expensive) stay.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We booked via booking.com for two nights. Already in check in we experienced a unprofessional, slow and clearly not motivated personel.
The best part of the hotel is nice pictures by booking, the entrance and the view from the restaurant- the horror lies behind. I mean I certainly have stayed in worst hotel also but none of them were costng me 160€ per night( the desk price was even 200€!).
Dirty and old carpets, old furniture, a TV, producing of which has stopped at least ten years ago. Bathroom so small that you can enter only alone- just to became a cold shower.
Te swimming pool was so dirty that I declained my morning swim. And as the "best" part to all of this- after we refused to stay longer than one night (we checked in around 8 pm), we were according to desk manager " free to leave after paying according to hotel and also booking.com policy, which is full amount". So we paid for disastrous stay 320€ and left this hole. No apologizes from the staff of course. I should have read aTripadvisor before I booked it- will never do the same mistake again. Hopefully you were luckier)))

“Definitely not what it used to be.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I just spent a 3 nights at The Ambassador and was hugely dissapointed. I have stayed at the hotel on atleast 5 previous occassions over the last 4 years and there is definitely a decline in the service and the standard of the rooms. In our first room, there was no hot water in the shower and the cold tap in the bath did not turn on at all, which meant that you had to fill the bath with cold water from the shower tap and hot water from the bath tap. Also - despite hanging our breakfast order on the door handle at 22:00 (way before the latest time allowed of 2:00am) we found it still hanging there in the morning. No breakfast was ever delivered. We complained at reception and they moved us to a new room. When we got to the new room though, the aircon only had one temperature. Boiling hot. And with Cape Town in the midst of a heatwave, opening the windows didn't help. We once again compained at reception and they fixed the aircon. That night we were awoken at 3am with water drippping onto the carpet from the aircon. When we called housekeeping the next day and asked them to fix it, they came to our room and informed us that maintenance only worked from Monday to Friday and that there was nothing they could do. The man told us he would speak to his manager and see what he could do. We never heard another word.
The aircon in the bar area wasn't working either.

As a whole the hotel really isn't the same anymore and I don't think it's value for money.
The only thing they have going for them at this stage is the view.

“Don't believe what you see on their website”

This hotel in cape town was a real disappointment. We were lucky to get a room directly overlooking the sea which was the only saving grace. We stayed 2 nights purely because of the sound of the sea by night. However, this hotel is nothing like The way it is portrayed on their website and this left a sour taste...no one likes to be deceived. The hotel is shabby, out-of-date and smelly. The room was small for the money we paid, the bed was very uncomfortable with a big dip in the middle, and the bathroom absolutely tiny. The staff were not friendly at all, a restaurant manager was quarrelling with her staff which was unpleasant to see, and the reception staff (apart from the duty manager who was lovely) were cold, unfriendly and rather unwelcoming. Our ultimate decision to check-out of this hotel followed the discovery of some food was very out of date. It was ok to spend 2 nights by the sea but we would definitely not return to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Fifth floor (down)

What a view from the pool and bar area, not just at sunset but the whole day....
Great morning breakfast included, looking out over the ocean, small hotel, the staff was friendly and accommodating.

“Close but no cigar”

I think this hotel has a superlative location and view. Rooms are up to date, neat and modern. Well serviced. However we were here on a conference. This meant we used the restaurant for lunch daily - which in my mind was expensive for what we received. The biggest issue I had was the service of the waiter staff which is lacking, there seems to many of them and you still need to get their attention to order. they do not know anything about coffee - Americano? The bar was closed at 11pm but they advertise it is open till midnight, so we were sent away only be invited back on checking with management. The management does not seem evident in this hotel and it could do with an attentive manager to see the small things like broken deck chairs. Otherwise a happy stay.
