I stayed in the Palace of the Lost City hotel fro two nights, midweek. This was my first stay in the hotel and I was very excited about the prospect of staying in a 5-star 'palace'. On arrival, the valet took my car to park and I eas escorted to the welcome desk (with a welcome drink). Check in was quick and efficient and my luggage was taken to my room directly. The interior of the hotel reception are was impressive. The attention to detail in the design and decoration of the hotel was remarkable - from the carpets, to the roof paintings, to the drain covers! Everthing fits with the theme of a lost African kingdom. The mini bar was stocked, but the items are very expensive.
The room was spacious and contained a king size bed, with a balcony and entrance hall. But the bathroom was a disappointment - the shower space is small and the bath is also small. I expected a big bath and shower, big enough for couples to share. Although the toilet is seperated from the rest of the bathroom with a door, there is very little space to open and close the door once you are inside the toilet cubicle - I suspect an average size man will not be able to do so!
The variety of food available at breakfast is unbelievable! From sushi, to oysters, pastries, cheese, pork roast, pancakes, noodles, porridge --- there is just so much to choose from. It is quite a sight to see! Truthfully, although there is such as wide range to choose from, I cannot justify the cost of the breakfast - one can only eat so much for breakfast to avoid uncomfortableness later in the day. I was there on a business trip and my experience may have been different if I was there on a leisure trip over a weekend with no work commitments for the rest of the day.
It is definitely an experience to enjoy at least once, but I doubt that I will return.
