While my tour list of things to bring along stated to bring a flashlight, I ignored that. Well the power at The Royal Hotel was out from approx. 9:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. the next day. Candles and matches were provided in the rooms. Very, very rustic hotel but good food and very good service outweigh the inconveniences. The landscape of the area makes up for a poor night's rest

If you like claw foot tubs, and antique furniture. This hotel is for you. It is small, quite, pretty comfortable and right in the center of town, which is very pictureque I just loved it. Friendly staff too!

Hotel is in keeping with the Wild West feel of the whole town which was gold prospecting town at the turn of the 20th Century... tin roofed, clapboard walls and white picket fences.
Twin room (in Nutmeg annex) spacious, well appointed (good shower pressure .. yippee!) though decor was so floral it left me cross-eyed!
Restaurant had a wild west themed menu which would cater for most tastes. Service average, not that the staff weren't willing, they just seemed as if they hadn't had the training. Breakfast comprehensive but average.

Very cozy rooms, there isn't much to do in this town but it's near to Blyde River Canyon and you can stop there going to the Kruger.
