“Very Family friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

Just got back from The Ranch. Had a great weekend. The hotel is not a traditional hotel but rather more a resort with rooms separate from each other, which is nice as they are more private. Parking is right at your room and is free.
Check in was quick. Rooms were really great. We had a Deluxe Family room and it was extremely spacious with flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Plenty of cupboard space and good linen on the beds. There is a bit of an ant problem--especially on the study desk--but not too bad as they are harmless. Bathroom was spacious with a bathtub and a shower. Complimentary bath products were ok. There were lots of nice extras in the room like a box of biscuits, small bottle of wine(which we didnt use as we dont drink) and some turkish delight.

Food was ok with a limited menu as we could only eat at the Buttery because we had a child with us. Nice child friendly facilities like jungle gym and play area--also have a small games room with pool table and table soccer-- but didnt use it as some things were not working while we were there. Resort also has a heated pool but didnt use that either as it is winter.

The Game Drive was really great, just didnt like the guide who kept scaring my 3 year old son by telling him that he would feed him to the lions!!! Totally 'not-on'
What was nice was that my son was allowed on the game drive as most game drives only allow ages 6 and above-- and he totally loved it. A little tip: if you going in winter on the game drive, take an extra jacket as it gets a bit a cold.
The resorts biggest asset are its staff especially at reception and the restaurant. We went to the Ranch to celebrate my husbands birthday and I phoned a week before to organise a cake for him. The lady at reception was super and organised all the details for me.
All in all, a nice weekend away.

“Super friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

I spent a week at The Ranch and loved it! The place was extremely busy due to the World Cup but the owners and staff still found time to help every SINGLE GUEST! Their hospitality is amazing. I even talked to a guest who lost his camera and was doing the lion walk the next day. The hotel let him borrow a camera and burn his pictures to a CD! This does not happen in every hotel.

Dinner at Basil's was delicious. The lion was was out of this world. The game drive was great! The employees are the friendliest I have ever met.

There is so much to do for people of all ages. I highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed. I would love to go back to The Ranch.

“Impeccable service and attention to detail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

We have just returned from a wonderful restful break at The Ranch. Everyone there works hard to ensure a wonderful stay. We particuly liked the home made biscuits in the room. Basil's Restaurant is one of the best that we have eaten at in SA. The gardens are lovely as is the pool area. Nothing to do except visit lions but that is what we wanted. Give a try if you are in the area.

“we love The Ranch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2009

It's been almost 3 years since we stayed but i have to leave a review after finding this hotel and hope that it is still as wonderful as it was when we stayed. My family and I have stayed 3 times at The Ranch on the way from Zimbabwe to Durban, and we always enjoy our stays. We had two double rooms next to each other which were big and very well air conditioned. The beds were huge and so comfortable, i slept so well and never woke up during the night which is unusual for me. The bath salts in our bathroom smelt so lovely i took them home and used them as potpourri!!

The food was gorgeous, i love a good steak as a treat and mine was perfectly cooked and tender. Good ol' south african beef i guess. The chocolate mousse is another of my favourites and i look forward to it everytime! Haven't used the pool yet so can't comment, but we did sit on the wooden porch for drinks in the afternoon which was so relaxing and never had to look for the waiter as he appeared just in time to take orders for top ups! there was also a wedding ceremony going on so my sister and i enjoyed seeing the bride!
Its a bit of a drive if you want to go shopping or into town for any reason but if you are happy to relax and just enjoy being away from the buzz of the city for a day or two it's perfect. We will hopefully be back to stay soon.

“Beautiful little place in a middle of nowhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2009

This 4-star hotel is part of the Protea Hotels Group - hence one expected good, but boring predictable service. I was pleasantly surprised on my first day of four: rooms were spacious and very well specc'ed (42' LCD monitor with 7 cable channels, air-con/heater combo, huge bathroom with Dove conditioners).

The hotel also has its own game farm plus a Lions' park - cost just under $10 for a 1.5hrs joy ride (highly recommended).

Hotel has two beautiful restaurants - +/- $15 for a full three course meal excl. drinks. One big selling point for this hotel are the entertainment facilities: two big, blue heated pools, a jaccuzi, a well-equiped gym, games' room, a well maintained tennis court, a big flower garden, etc.

Overall service was acceptable, but I did not appreciate a $20 overcharge on my checkout bill; although, they eventually accepted their fault and corrected it.

I will definately visit this place again.
