We've stayed here on two separate trips. Maybe we'll try to something else next time, maybe not. The first time, we stayed parking lot/roadside. That was better than this time, as we were stuck on the highway side. I had an impression it's because we booked through Expedia. The first room we were booked in reeked of cigarette smoke (supposed to be non-smoking). They were very nice about switching us to another room and apologized but wouldn't give us a parking lot room. I know they were not booked. Highway side is loud. The fan in the room is loud, but happy about it this time as it was about loud enough to mask the highway noise. The room is big enough, with sparse furniture. Yes, the carpeting is old and thin, it's a "basic" room. But that's what you're paying for considering other prices in the area. The best thing about the room is the bed. It has good support, no sore back for me in the morning. I also love the pillows. There are two/person and I think they were a down alternative. I had trouble sleeping the first night due to the temperature in the room, which is hard to regulate because there's no temperature guidance on the room heat/fan. The bathroom is the worst part. The sink is out in the room, and the bath/toilet are crammed into the smallest possible room. The door barely clears the toilet seat. I suspect large people have great difficulty with the space. I'm small and even I felt totally cramped trying to get in and out of the room. They do have a better continental breakfast than other hotels in the area. They had hard boiled eggs, sausage and (probably) powdered scrambled eggs in addition to all the normal cold food.
We ate at the hotel restaurant when we arrived, and it's actually a great value deal. There was hardly anyone else in there at the time and maybe that helped. But our service was so fast I was amazed. I can't remember when real restaurant food appeared faster on my table. The bread was warm, the salad was fast and good. The entree was actually HOT. I had the Friday fish fry special. It was very good!
They also had a bar next to the restaurant. There was a guy in their singing. Before I walked in I thought it was karaoke night. Sad to say, it was not. They actually pay this guy to come in and sing every weekend. He's a nice guy, and I'm not saying he has no talent. It was middle of the road karaoke quality. The blonde bartender also sings a few. She has a lovely voice really. I would love to have her voice. What I lack in voice I make up for in ear. If you hear the music for Fool Number 1, head for the door if off-key notes make you cringe. I don't know how the same person can sing a few songs so well, and do so poorly on one.
Room Tip: Non-highway side.
