An attractive hotel: lovely grounds, nice buildings, helpful staff. Super breakfasts.
The room I had was large with an excellent bathroom. Good furnishings, a good firm bed. Lovely thatched roof and ceiling.
But there are two drawbacks. One is the noise from the motorway that is no more than 300m from the hotel. There's an incessant rumble in the background. For city-dwellers, this will be par for the course. If you live in a quiet place, then you may find this distracting.
The other is silly: the lack of light in the rooms. I swtiched on every light -- walls, table lamps, ceiling lights, and the place was still on the gloomy side. I suspect they have low wattage bulbs. The room cries out for a powerful lamp, perhaps a standing lamp, with 100 watts for those times when you need to be able to see. Some table lamps next to the bed to provide focused light for reading in bed would help as well. If I were staying here for a week or more, I would have nipped over to the mall and bought one or two cheap, but powerful lamps. This is a crazy economy in a hotel where otherwise it is clear that corners are not cut. Of course, if you are not trying to work in the room, then this problem would barely be noticed.
