“Bad Service - needs more efficient desk staff.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

I spent one night in this hotel while in transit from Malawi and had to wait for the connecting flight on the next day. I arranged a hotel pickup and eventually found the driver after calling the hotel to say I could not find him. The trip to the hotel was fast due to a new motorway that has been built for the world cup. On check in, i requested an airport transit for the next morning and assumed that this would be done. The room was just ok but the aircon did not seem to work well and the room was in need of some upgrading i felt. The next morning after breakfast i went to the desk to check on the airport transfer only to be told that they had no record of it and did not know what the staff the previous night had done. After arguing the point they asked if i would take another taxi but that it might not be ready at the time i had asked for previously. They then asked me to pay for the taxi in cash but i had none so they wanted me to walk across to the local mall to get money from the ATM. I refused and they eventually gave me the cash after i had signed for it to the bill. When the taxi eventually arrived the driver told me that he was a police officer and driving the taxi part time. He also seemed to have to give some money to the hotel security before we were allowed to leave the hotel. I've no idea what the situation was there. Anyway, the only reason i stayed in this hotel was due to the fact that the ones nearer to the airport were full due to the world cup. I won't be staying in this hotel again.

“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

I took my girlfriend for a romantic weekend to the Protea Hotel Waterfront, Centurion. Reservations were very helpful to arrange sprinkling wine, rose and candles in the room to surprise my girlfriend. Check in was quick and easy. The room was quite, comfortable, clean and nicely decorated with the extras I requested. We had dinner at the hotels restaurant and it was a delicious South African style braai on the Saturday evening with a romantic and relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast the following morning was tasteful with a wide variety to choose from. I would defiantly recommend the hotel with its awesome staff to anyone and would certainly return myself.

Breakfast is very strange you have to know are you going to eat African or Continental breakfast. They might cahrge by different price. The hotel is very close to Centurion Mall shopping centre. You can walk there.

“Requires a complete management overhaul”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2009

A hotel called "waterfront" conjures up an image of a nice lakeside location. The waterfornt at Centurion is in fact a stagnant lake bubbling with marsh gas with at times a noxious smell, and this was just at the start of summer! True some wild birds do chance their guts and feed in the mud around the edges which provides some natural interest.

The hotel itself is one of disorganised chaos starting with our arrival and registration which took all of 30 minutes before we could get to our room after a 10 hour flight. The room was very average for what is classified as a 4* hotel. In the UK this hotel would only make 3*. Don't think that the large numbers of cars in the car park is indicative of good patronage, the hotel also hosts the local Europcar car hire office!

Breakfast it has to be said was satisfactory with a wide choice of light or cooked food. Coffee and tea however were not freshly prepared and were provided from thermos flasks resulting in the tea having a coffee taste having obviously been brewed in a flask previously used for coffee. We learnt to ask for a fresh pot of tea after that. We had one evening meal in the hotel. The food was only average for the price with no great culinary skills displayed and once again there was disorganisation amongst the staff and no obvious person in charge either in front of house or in the kitchen. Chefs kept poppping in and out of the restaurant whether to have a smoke we know not. We also had a lunch time business buffet which was very poor.

As mentioned by a previous reviewer, Wi-Fi is advertised but you have to pay for a access voucher which was expensive.

There is a swimming pool or rather a plunge pool in the smallish garden overlooking the waterfront. As the garden is north facing the sun is completely lost by mid afternoon behind the hotel. The Centurion shopping centre close by is a redeeming factor with many good shops and restaurants.

In summary this hotel has currently a severe managment problem which needs to be addressed. No doubt many people might be thinking of staying in this hotel next year for the World Cup. My advice would be if you can stay elsewhere do so.

Dear Tonj48

Thank you for taking your time to post your comments about your experience at our hotel!

Firstly, regarding your comments to the lake, the municipality is taking steps to improve the condition of the lake.

I would like to apologise about the slow check in you had upon arrival at the hotel and I can assure you that my STAFF have been trained since you have stayed here.

The poor quality of food is unacceptable in my hotel and I do apologise that you had to experience it. I would like to inform you that there has been a drastic change in my kitchen and it is being run under new management.

I am happy to announce that we have free internet services available of 100mb per day! And we have upgraded our Wi-Fi system in the last two months.

I do appreciate your comments and hope we would have the privilege of welcoming you back to the hotel soon!

Kind regards

“Nice hotel in a strange setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2009

I assumed this hotel was in Joburg, but it is actually in an area called Centurion, between Joburg and Pretoria - safer we assumed.
The hotel is nice, and the staff were excellent - they could not do enough to make us feel welcome. The rooms are clean and adequate. The setting is however disappointing, which is not the hotels fault, as it sits by a lagoon/lake which is filthy. A pity that the local council cannot spend some money and clean the rubbish in the water attracting bugs when you lie near the pool area of this hotel.

Dear Nlbulh,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments.

Just to let you know, that collectively as a group (shopping center, and surrounding restaurants and ourselves) have lobbied to the Town Council concerning the Lake. They have since promised to have the problem fixed before May / June 2010. So lets hope!

I hope that we will have the privilege in welcoming you back to the Hotel when this occurs!

Should you require anything further, please feel free to contact me personally.

Sincerely,
