“Don't stay here!”

The facilities at this hotel are good. The service however is appalling. When we fisrt checked in the room looked as if it hadn't been cleaned, with dirty shoe prints on the bathroom floor. In addition, the sheets had clearly not been changed from the previous customer, but unfortunely I only realised this the next day when I opened up the bed to discover glitter (presumably from the previous customer's nail polish) at the bottom. So we'd been sleeping on unwashed sheets- it made my skin crawl.

The cleaner we had again failed to change the sheets the next day though I specifically asked her to. When I complained the manager seemed to be indifferent, not even tendering an apology.

At breakfast we were kept waiting for forty five minutes for muffins which, my waiter told me, were in the oven. When I asked a different waiter after forty five minutes, I was told that there wouldn't be any that day.

Appalling service and dirty rooms. Don't stay here if you can help it.

“as usual the service was pathetic”

we arrived @ golden horse, having booked 2 rooms for 1 night. They had booked only 1 room. Luckily we were able to get that fixed. the desk staff were humourless and incompetent. The newly spruced up hotel looked quite spiffy with lots of bright coulours and beautiful decor. I was amazed at how lovely the rooms were -they had really improved on the previous drab decor and colour scheme. We were met with deeps grey & rick plum tones set off against white. It looked very beautiful and things were starting to look up. Imagine our dismay when we entered the newly appointed bathrooms and found hair on the floor, and dirt smudges in the bath! The bathrooms had obviously not been cleaned! Add to that the once were white, now are gray hotel towels and you have a recipe for disaster...
The bathroom door didnt have a handle on the inside of the door which meant that we got stuck in it & someone had to bash the door open. There after we used the bin to hold the door shut.

We went to ninos for a snack . The manager came by to ask how we were doing. At that point, 2 flies that had been annoying us reappeared at our table so he disappeared...

We also had breakfast there the following morning and waited an extraodinary amount of time for 2 cups of coffee... The poor service left us fuming and irritable - not the way you would liek to start a morning.

All thru the trip, the room access cards kept losing their information so we had to have them reset contantly - about 5 times in 1 day.

At nights, the hotel parking turned into a party zone. people parked there with their music blaring and late night revellers spent extended amounts of time screaming and singing and making a din in the parking lot. Since the rooms faced the parking, this meant we got no sleep from the constant noise - this brings the question - why did the parking security allow this ??

overall i rate this stay as pretty terrible. Customer service is a myth in this hotel. We weren't even able to obtain casino player cards because their systems were not working... their coffee machine at the restaurant also was not working and obviously neither were the cleaning staff....

“A mixed bag of pleasure and dissappointment”

Being at the hotel I had the chance to try out a number of the restaurants that the hotel offers. Ola I found to be value for money especially if you have children. John Dory was great except for the fact that the sushi bar tends to only stock the more expensive variety leaving the veg section out almost completely. Ninos was Ninos and is where ever you may go. Indian cuisine was also your typical indian take away with not much to write home about. My last evening spoilt my entire trip. I paid a visit to Rockerfellers, this used to be called boston barbque and was very well run and value for money. I can not recommend Rockerfellers to anyone, as the variety has been kept cheap, the marinated muscels were dry (where was the marinade) They had run out of butternut soup at 6.40 pm on a week night, the starter section was basically salads no prawn cocktails and crab salad anywhere in sight and presentation was awful. For mains there was not nearly as much choice, there were more curry dishes than anything else, the roast area was limited to beef, turky or lamb, the roast potato's were hiden, yorkshire pud was non existant. The choice of veg was potato bake, butternut, cold cabbage and cauliflower in cheese sauce but the cheese sauce was non existant and the cauliflower looked grey. Desert was a total let down as they used substitutes for the cream caramel which made the dish grainy, the sauce was minimal and tasteless, most of the other deserts had coconut added including the bread and butter pudding which I am affraid was the last straw for me. YOU DO NOT PUT COCONUT ON BREAD AND BUTTER PUDDING, at R135 each drinks not included or tip for that matter I felt Rockerfellers was a rip off

“Great Staff, beware the noise levels”

I stayed here on business. A word of advice: If you stay here, expressly request a room near the horse race course and far from the casino or parking lot!! For three nights, I was initially booked into a room that was practically situated on the casino floor. Sounds of jingling, whooping jackpot machines and piped music, combined with the odd loud announcement, jarred my room all night. I was moved to another room after complaining bitterly about the first. Only this time I was entertained to the equally loud/disruptive noises of rowdy gamblers seeking fresh air in the parking lot, idling/revving their cars incessantly, playing their radios at full blast, holding drunken conversations above the music until 3am. Security did nothing to curb the behaviour of these people. The second room had no airon’ (the area is incredibly humid this time of year). The hotel staff could not help me further as they were booked out. Besides that, amenities were acceptable and the place was clean and staff were friendly.

  • Liked — Friendly Staff
  • Disliked — Excrutiaating noise round the clock

“Good experience”

The Golden Horse Casino offered good rooms at not outrageous prices. It offers a nice casino with numerous dining options. Being a casino, it is also unusually secure (there are armed guards with machine guns standing outside plus you have to pass through a metal detector and x-ray to even get in). Overall, if you want a good hotel with a lot of in-house entertainment options in PMB, I would recommend this hotel.

  • Liked — Lots of dining and entertainment options without leaving the hotel
  • Disliked — A bit noisy due to casino and live music
