“A great place to stay”

I stayed here for 7 nights while attending a conference. Was I lucky! Downtown Durban is virtually a no-go area - very dangerous to walk out, both in the daytime and at night. Too many of our delegates got mugged and robbed. But, Mythai is at the top of Florida Road (about 15 minutes from the city), which has a host of cafes, restaurants and a pub. I felt quite safe and walked down the street every night without a worry. It is a really nice guesthouse. I stayed in a large room, large bed, big windows, beautiful ensuite bathroom. The breakfast was fantastic. They do evening meals for groups of people - Thai, of course - and I booked in a group of my colleagues for a meal. They said it was the best Thai meal they had ever had (the guy imports spices from Thailand). To get downtown, there is a bus stop just outside (2 Rand) or a taxi (60 Rand). Cost was 2,555 Rand for 7 nights. A bargain. I really do recommend it.

“Lovely room, great staff”

The property goes from Innes Road, where it fronts, to a driveway that exits right onto Florida Road, so you can safely walk to the bus, restaurants and shops. Really convenient and very beautiful.
My room was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well maintained. It had two private balconies, its own large washroom, and the was only place in all of South Africa I found to have a table with outlets where your tea kettle and rechargeable devices could be conveniently plugged in without having to crawl under or move furniture.
The kitchen for guest breakfasts is in a separate building across the backyard pool (there is a front yard pool too), and this keeps the cooking smells from the rooms - mostly.
I'd give the place raves except that on two mornings "bad" (hormone-filled, from the pig not being castrated the full 6 weeks before butchering- it smells awful) bacon was being cooked - S Africans don't seem to mind this, as I found "bad" bacon in many places and no one else seemed to mind.
Also, though I'd made arrangements with the hostess before I made reservations, to have a couple hours internet access each night (I was blogging for the grandkids), she changed her mind the first night to the extent of asking me snippishly if I was going to be finished soon after I'd been on for 15 minutes.
Otherwise pleasant and helpful, staff pleasant and helpful also.
