“Great location, spacious rooms, good service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

Stayed here during the World Cup in 2010, was an excellent choice. Our room (studio) was huge and more than ideal. Was great to unwind in during the evening before heading back out to a restaurant or bar. Florida Road is a short walk away and we walked there every night without any problems, we also walked to the beach and to the stadium. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the beds were very comfortable and we couldn't have wished for me. Definitely recommend this beautiful guest house. If you can, booked the 'city view' room, as the room with balcony looks stunning! Book here with confidence and enjoy your stay!

“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

I stayed at The Palms during a business trip to Durban. It was just absolutely lovely! The room was clean and spacious, and the breakfast in the morning was absolutely yummy!

The hosts Colleen and Suzanne are also very friendly and helpful, and the staff made my stay very comfortable.

The best thing about my stay was the luxurious bed! I had very long days and it was very nice to know that I would be able to have a good night's rest.

Thank you so much Colleen and Suzanne! I will definitely stay at The Palms again whenever in Durban!

“Fantastic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

The Palms is a wonderful place where you are really at home!

I had the garden room, so I had my ' own' garden!

The staff of the hotel was very friendly, the room looked magnificent, the bed slept perfect, the honesty bar worked perfect, the location is great (best neighbourhood of Durban), swimmingpool just too nice, great breakfast with freshly brewed cappucino.

This is just a place where you hoped for and you will not so very often will find...

“Highly recommended!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2009

Spent two very pleasant nights at The Palms. We found the guesthouse to be very attractive, spacious and clean with a tasty breakfast each morning. They also serve the best coffee in Durban - seriously!
The two owners were very helpful and very pleasant.

The guesthouse is situated within 5 minutes walk to Florida Road where there are numerous restaurants and bars to suit any budget. Contrary to what other people may say we felt perfectly safe walking at night from the guesthouse to Florida Road for dinner. In fact, I have felt more scared walking around certain parts of London at night! Don't believe all the scaremongering.

We will definitely stay at The Palms the next time we are in Durban.

“do not walk in durban”

The Palms has lovely rooms and our hostess, Colleen, at first, seemed very gracious and helpful. However, although we booked three nights, we decided to stay only one night when Colleen advised it was not safe to walk two blocks to the restaurant she recommended. She was extremely supportive about our decision to check out the next day and made it clear we would not be penalized, indicating she had other guests on a waiting list. We were very grateful and expressed our apreciation for her understanding. However, to our surprise, she charged us for two nights. Then, we were really turned-off when she treated her staff disrespectfully (like slaves), clapping her hands and barking out orders for them to help us with our luggage.

There may be areas in Durban where one can feel comfortable and safe, but this was not our experience.
