Not your normal hotel, thank god, but a place with real character that shows just how to do things right. This place is a real find, the rooms are all adapted from a house and it feels far more like a B&B than a hotel in terms of intimacy, friendliness and cosiness. The rooms are dressed to a high standard, interestingly though they have a coarse rope textured floor which might not suit all tastes but is undoubtedly hard wearing.
The rooms have all you need to stay in them, though the additional cost of WiFi was a bit of a surprise in a hotel of this character and quality. The rooms have good quality coffee, tea, biscuits and cafetieres, large clean bathrooms and big beds.
The one main concern is noise. The houses have the original sash windows and these do not stop sound as well as modern windows. The hotel is on a busy junction and in the day noise is quite high, however the noise level falls off by evening, although I understand Friday/Saturday nights can be loud on adjacent Florida Road. I slept with no problems, and I think all but light sleepers should be fine.
The location of the hotel is very handy for the bars and restaurant on Florida Road, and none of the local attractions in Durban are far away.
The food in the hotel is excellent and there is a great selection of local eateries to suit all tastes and wallets. You will not go hungry here, in fact you will need to return to try the rest of the availabale places.
This once again is a hotel I would not hesitate to return to.
