The sirvece was good, The room were excelent quiet & private. Abselute excelent bafet breakfast & a nice resturant, bar on the same property. The Spa was mindblowign. This Hotel is close to the new Madiba Stadiam Aand City Center. Easy accesse from N2 Highway and about 15min drive from the Airport. Very close to Casino.Close to all Durban Beaches and markets. MINDBLOWING RESTURANT IS OSEAN BASKET ON MUSGRAVE AVE, THAT IS A MUST WHENEVER IN DURBAN.

Room Tip: Top Floor River & Sea view.

“No heating in the winter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2010

This is a good property, far from the centre of Durban, modern and essentially fit for purpose if you are attending a conference or similar event in it. Be aware that

a) during the winter months there is no heating - the rooms are cold (fortunately there are extra blankets)
b) during my stay only one elevator worked and took forever
c) internet access is charged at unreasonable prices (8 dollars for 30 minutes)
d) breakfast is OK, lunch lacks inspiration (same food every day)

“World class spa facilities!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

My husband surpirsed me with a voucher for a spar treatment at the Riverside spa, which is part of the hotel. The facilities are wonderful and the service is warm and friendly.

“Nice enough !..friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2010

Stayed at the hotel for a conference recently. The hotel was decent. Coveniently located and well furnished. Most cab drivers knew the location and it seems a popular hotel with travellers. The restaurant is nice. Especially the breakfast. Service is attentive yet very casual. The staff are generally very friendly and affable. They have a nice bar next to the pool. Has got a good feel to it and was packed on one of the evenings. Overall it was a good place. Its apparently managed by a large South African chain. We did stay during a busy period in Durban and thus ended up paying a slightley higer rate. However I feel it would be good value for money otherwise. Largely the place was good. It just felt dull at times. Another irritating thing was the fact that there was no bottled water in the room. the minibar was empty and there were no small eats! Strange. There was a small plastic bottle in the minibar but it did not have a label with any indication on regarding potability. Lack of any things to munch in the room was baffling. It could have been on charge. Some of the wiring and plug points were tatty and one needs to struggle a bit to get them to work. All in all a good hotel. Durban as a city is nice. Its got some friendly people and some decent places to eat. One must visit the Gateway mall, eat at the Ushaka marine boat restaurant or visit the lighthouse bar at the Oyster Box hotel...Cheers!

“Nice comfortable city hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

We were there as part of a Saga tour. Prior to arriving at the hotel we visited the Botanical Gardens in Durban and can say I was very impressed by the range of colourful plants on display as well as the native birds to be seen.
The room was beautiful with lots of space and even a microwave. There was a double bed. One criticism was that the toilet was at an angle between the bath and the sink and there was a danger of hitting you head sitting down or getting up.
For dinner we had Pastrami and Salad to start and for main course there was Hake and vegetables, Chicken Curry and Mince. We had Chocolate Cake with Fresh Fruit. There was quite a choice and all of it looked good.
Breakfast was the best selection yet. I had cornflakes, first cereal in Africa, followed by Bacon, Scrambled Eggs and Lamb Sausage, which was delicious. The coffee was awful, which was a surprise for a hotel of this standing.
At breakfast one of the restaurant staff went round the dining room giving the weather forecast as well as stocks and shares and exchange rates, apparently off the top of his head. He was funny.
South Africa seems to be famous for being a meat eating nation and that is certainly reflected in the amount of meat you are given at each meal. The same can be said of fish.
