We were looking for a quiet break from Johannesburg for 1 night and didn't want to travel too far. We thought a 5 star hotel on the Vaal sounded like the best option. The service was very good and rooms decent and comfortable with a great view of the river.
The problem was the wedding that happened around the pool area in the afternoon that started blasting the worst imaginable music from early afternoon even though the wedding was only late afternoon. There was no escaping the noise and I would recommend checking if there is a wedding on before booking. The next morning Seef estate agents had a conference which involved hammering banners into the lawn at 8am on Sunday. I thought they could have done this the night before. The delegates were also standing outside our window chatting from 8am.
We didn’t get a quiet break but apart from that the hotel and food was decent and it didn’t break the bank.

The staff are willing to make your stay as welcoming and comfortable as possible. They even have a discreet sign in your room asking if you preference for a choice of 4 different types of pillows (feather pillows, contour pillows etc). Didn't have much of an opportunity to enjoy the facilities, as we spent most of our time in the conference room. Food was very good. Views from the rooms were stunning.

I have know idea how this 5* hotel got it's rating, shocking service and facilities for teens not available due to lack of maintenance. Food was more in line of 3* and unimaginative, very bland and unappetising. My son was very disappointed that the only thing to do was swim or play golf. Staff were friendly but ineffective. Old and run down hotel.
