“Pure Excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I have stayed at this hotel before and it is undoubtedly one of the best run hotels - with leadership of Mr. Josiah Montsho; he is in the league of the very finest in the world. I stay in the Ritz Carltons, Dorchesters and Peninsulas and am a keen observer of hotel service from every angle. The service is absolutely superb at this hotel and it is strategically located in the heart of the Sandton shopping area so you don't need a car - you are linked to the Sandton City centre by sky bridge. The rooms are well appointed, the Club lounges comfortable and food excellent. Would like to mention the lady who runs Guest Relations, Bettina, who has to be one of most organized hoteliers I've ever come across. I booked the wrong room - in order to upgrade to club level, one has to book the corner rooms and from there upgrade. Bettina just sorted out my upgrade issue in a matter of minutes - she has excellent product knowledge ~ (i.e. Intercontinental hotels) and reminded me of the upgrade sequence particular to this hotel. Intercontinental hotels always honor their upgrades and for this I'm always thankful - unlike the unfortunate experience that I had with Leading Hotels of the World and the 12 Apostles in Cape Town.

“all right but not fabulous, especially for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We stopped here to rest for two nights after very long flights on our first trip ever to Africa, before moving on to our real destination.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, the room spacious, and the staff arranged for drop-offs to the GauTrain back to the airport (conveniently two long blocks away, if you need to walk). They also arranged for an excellent minibus tour of Soweto on request. The hotel is next to malls with restaurants and upscale shops (though these close on Sunday).
On the other hand, the staff service was uneven, with some mistakes made that were surprising in this price range. And the food was all right, but nothing special.
There is heavy police presence in the hotel and mall vicinity and around the aiport; this may be excessive, but it is true that we experienced a theft even in the brief time we were at an airline's lounge at the airport.

“Wow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We were in JHB to see the Cold Play concert. The Intercontinential experience just topped the whole weekend. We had asked for a double and checked-in to find two singles but the hotel staff sorted that problem out in about 15 - 20 minutes and we had a Kingsize double :-) The room was huge, as was the bathroom and the walk in cupboard. The view of the city is great and the blockout on the curtains mean that should you want to sleep the day away after a heavy evening - no problem. A epresso maker in the room means you can wake up to decent coffee. The food in the main retaurant was delicious. Staff were superb and very helpful

“First Night in Africa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

For my first visit to Africa, I landed in Johannesburg around 6pm after a grueling 15 hour flight from ATL. Not so grueling afterall though, because I was so excited to be visiting the Motherland. Planning on staying in Kruger National Park for the following next 10 days, we figured after 15 hours in a plane I deserved to relax properly in the gorgeous, much more exquisite than I imagined, Intercontinental Sandton Towers. We are driven in the hotel limo (a Mercedes Benz sedan) by knowledgeable and friendly Elijah, who presented me with a beautiful bouquet of red roses at the airport (he was obviously prompted by my beau, how else would he know I loved roses!? Well if he did, that's certainly some excellent service!!!). The property was nearly empty, so we had it all to ourselves in one of the nicest Ambassador assigned rooms, not even on the Club level, but just as nice. After unloading our bags, we are given a small tour of the Club level by one of the very courteous managers and escorted back down to the lobby restaurant. Soon after it began storming, and we dined on the best kudu and spring bok I'd ever tasted - the ONLY I'd ever tasted - in the gorgeous lobby, dimly lit by a huge beautifully decorated Christmas tree as I watched the trees outside being battered by what seemed a hurricane. With only one other couple near by, It was very romantic as we toasted with Cape Riesling to the eve of Christmas eve very grateful to have safely travelled so far and so smoothly. After the delicious meal, we explored more of what seemed a nearly empty hotel and ventured out to the pool. The rain had slowed down, but the wind still a bit strong and the temperature had dipped a tiny bit - if warmer, we'd certainly had dipped in ourselves. The outdoor pool was I believe on a top floor and flanked by palm trees and again dimly lit - a tropical paradise, a pity to not have used that evening. The next morning we had an equally exquisite buffet breakfast in the same lobby restaurant and realised that the pools in the lobby were filled with Coi fish as large as I've ever seen! Beautiful! And what a difference the daylight made - definitely one of the most beautifully designed hotels I've been to, much less any InterContinental property. A++++ quality of staff, service and design.

“Absolutely Fabulous - Treated like a star for my 40th Birthday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This is a really fabulous hotel is a great area in Johanesburg. My boyfriend & I spent a weekend in Sandton Towers after a very busy business trip. I only booked our room on the day of our arrival by telephone. I explained that I would be spending my 40th Birthday with my boyfriend & that I would appreciate a nice room. The lady at reservations was so lovely. Upon arrival I was wished happy Birthday & introduced to the customer relations manager who then showed me our beautiful room. It was a corner room with a king size bed as requested & a fabulous bathroom. About 20 minutes after I arrived, a complimentary birthday cake & bottle of champagne was wheeled into our room. I can't express how touched I was as was my boyfriend when he arrived later that evening. The hotel booked an amazing steak house for us, whose name I unfortunately can't remember, but it is next door to a bar called Kathy's which was equally wonderful with one of the best live pub bands I have a ever heard!

My boyfriend & I were so tired when we arrived at Sandton Towers & we both slept like babies in our amazing king size bed & marshmallow like pillows!

The hotels spa is a short walk away through the sky-walk and I can't recommend it enough. I had a really wonderful massage & I floated back to our room!

The one & only tiny negative comment I have is that I kept badly knocking my toe off the HUGE brass door stopper behind the bathroom door! (cursing myself every time I did it!). If rubber could be fitted over them it would solve the problem.

In short, I can't wait to return to this hotel as they made my 40th birthday one to remember. To my regret I had forgotten to mention that my boyfriends birthday was also on the same day as me! Maybe we would have gotten an even better offer had I done so! :-)

Would I return to Sandton Towers? Without a shadow of a doubt!

Room Tip: Book over the phone, you'll have more chance of getting your room choice/any available deals.
