We stayed here for 2 nights, at the front end of a safari trip. We were satisfied with this hotel, and I would be willing to stay here again, but I might want to try a more central location instead. It's location is both its virtue and its drawback, depending on your personal interests. It's away from the center of town, and there aren't shops or restaurants catering to visitors in this neighborhood. There are no sidewalks in this part of town, but that seems to be not uncommon in J'burg. I felt safe walking around the neighborhood during daylight hours.
It's designed as a conference hotel, with a huge parking lot. Tour groups stay here sometimes, though I think the occupancy was pretty low when we stayed. The guestrooms are spread out among several one-story buildings. There are garden areas between the buildings, and we enjoyed watching some peacocks prance about. The room was fine.
We ate dinner both nights in the main restaurant and enjoyed the food. The first night featured a Continental cuisine buffet with a few South African touches. The kind of buffet where there's a chef carving roast beef. Lots of options, including desserts. Both hotel guests and locals were dining. The second night was regular table service, again continental fare. The same restaurant serves an upscale hot breakfast buffet. There is also a "traditional" South African buffet restaurant on the grounds. I took a look at the buffet and I wanted to try it, but I decided it was too expensive.
Incidentally, on our one day for sightseeing in J'burg, we went on a tour of Soweto and the Apartheid Museum with a private guide, a resident of Soweto. We used the local taxi minibus for transportation. The guide also took us through the hotel's staff security gate rather than the guest gate, so we rubbed shoulders with the locals more so than a lot of visitors.
