My wife and I are each diamond members ( staying at Hilton in excess of 60 nights a year ) and stay in hotels around the world about 160 nights

The room we were offered had dirty towels, used soap, deposits in the toilet, pubs on the toilet seat, and hair in the shower.

Disgusting.....

We reported the matters to the desk.

When we returned there was still dirty towels and hair in the shower.

When we asked to see the duty manager to complain ( a big mistake ) he found it amusing, did not know our names and said well at least we have put some matters right.........

I must say the check in staff are fine but the staff for the rooms and the executive lounge are inept to be kind.

I re ported this to the management and never did receive an answer from the manager..who is German..but is not concerned to offer European standards.

I was awarded 5000 points for the Hilton reward program an insult to say the least.

Stay elsewhere

I am winding down a great vacation. great stays at local hotels, starwooed properties, and was going to stay at Sheraton Pretoria but friend suggested Sandton cool place to see. As Diamond with Hilton decided to use point, to begin had an error on website making reservations, wrong date and took points....should have been a sign. Made the correct award reservation for 2 nights. Got here and wanted to turn around. I felt like I was in the late 70"s, total rude incompetant staff......got to room air conditioning did not work, staff came in 'fixed' it but turned heat on.....had another staff come in and fix. The list could go on and on and I have only been here for a few hours. I am checking out 1st thing in the morning and heading to Pretoria and if need be blow off my award points. So filthy, terrible hotel. As a Diamond I will let Corporate hilton be aware what good that will do. Do not stay at this hotel, especially using points you will be very very disappointed. It takes alot for me to write a review like this on Trip Advisor but others need to be aware of the Disgusting Hilton Hotel. MOVE ON at whatever cost!

We had real difficulty in finding the hotel as we arrived after dark and although we tried to follow the directions published on the hotel web site, did not find it easily. It is easy to miss if you are not familiar with the area.
We had a spacious room with everything we needed although I think that wireless internet should really be standard nowadays. We ate in the hotel restaurant as we were too tired to go out. It was not cheap and really fairly mediocre.
The staff at the reception were helpful. Breakfast was fine although nothing special.

This was my first visit to Sandton and I was extremely impressed with the Hotel, the staff (who were extremely well trained and offered genuine / caring hospitality), my room which was wonderful - flawless in fact and the wonderful Hhonors benefits which were delivered. I am a Diamond Hhonors member and received an automatic upgrade, a nice bottle of Cape Merlot, 2 litres of water and a nice fruit platter.

Access from OR Tambo Airport (JNB) via Gautrain was easy and very convenient. The Hotel were able to offer me a guide and expert tour of Johannesburg / surroundings with ease and efficiency, although I arranged it at the last minute.

The Executive lounge is well sized and has a good spread - very satisfactory.

The most impressive part of customer service was that the hotel stored lots of luggage for me and put my laptop / valuables into safe deposit (all free of charge as a "valued guest") while I went on a safari for 5 days. This was effortless and extremely convenient. I was impressed with the ease of this procedure.

Well done to all the Hilton Sandton - a gem of a property. I would definitely stay here again. A genuinely 5 star hotel. The breakfast buffet was such a good spread and the service in the restaurant was very pleasant and caring, certainly not robotic.

Excellent trip all round. The only comment I can make is that if you like the Hilton in Sandton, do not expect this level of service and hospitality in the Cape Town Hilton which is at best a 2 star property with many issues. Many tourists will do a tour of South African Hiltons. Sandton and Durban are excellent, Cape Town an embarassment to Hilton
