We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Jo'burg for 2 nights on the last leg of our Southern Africa adventure. The hotel has a good location that is connected to a mall that has some fantastic restaurants and shoppping. The hotel also has a pretty large and nicely equipped gym and pool. The lobby and indoor and outdoor restaurant areas are spacious, airy and well-decorated. Essentially, it's a very self-sufficient property.
The service is good too. Everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly and they were good about accomodating our Diamond Member late check out. We had an issue with a clogged drain in our shower and once we reported the issue, maintenance immediately resolved the issue.
We asked about in-room internet access and we were told that WiFi was only available in the lobby area. To improve, the hotel should look into offering WiFi internet access in the guest rooms, not just in the lobby. Many guests these days rely on smartphones and WiFi enabled devices that don't readily lend themselves to the USB cables offered in the rooms. It was highly inconvenient to have to run to the lobby everytime we wanted to use our iPhones.
The one disappointment was that the Regency Club was closed during our stay and in fairness, management did notify us of this in advance and did offer us breakfast in the lobby level restaurant and additional bonus points. However, as Diamond Members, management should have given us the option of having the complimentary breakfast delivered to our room and they should have offered us complimentary drink vouchers for use in the lobby level restaurant since most Regency Clubs would offer complimentary drinks and snacks anyhow.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we'd stay here again.
