Excellent hotel. The staff is always friendly, efficient and most helpful. The rooms are good, clean and spacious with decent facilities. The hotel has a good restaurant with great food being served. The breakfast buffet is very good. The location of the hotel is good. It's close to good restaurants and an abundance of shopping facilities. Safe and secure guarded parking is available on the premises. Always a great hotel to stay at.

I spent two nights at the hotel for a conference. First Impressions- the hotel is access controlled via boom gates and security. the first look at the hotel is amazing with an awesome water feature and parking area with very old and beautiful vines that were in bloom. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient. location - it is beautifully located inthe heart of Johannesburg. with great access to the most trendiest spots and malls. Rooms- the room is of average size. very modern and caters for the business travelers every need with free wi-fi as well. the complimentary apple and candy was much appreciated. restaurant- this is where I had an issue with the staff attitude. they are unfriendly and act like they are doing you a favour. this spoilt my evening. the meal choices were also limited and the prices were exorbitant. breakfast on the other hand was rather good. the addition of a pancake machine was fantastic. there was a lovely variety but i think the hotel could be a bit more halaal friendly. Final comments - the PH group really need to re-invent their restaurant strategy and menus. the option of introducing an outside menu(through the likes of mr delivery etc) is a suggestion. in the tough economic climate the prices on their restaurant menu is daylight robbery. the food was nothing extraordinary. they really need to reinvent this aspect of the hotel.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review here on Trip Advisor.

Firstly please accept my sincerest apologies that the STAFF in the restaurant came across as unfriendly and rude, this is truly most disappointing to hear as I am always inundated with compliments about the STAFF throughout the Hotel. This has been addressed by myself with the TEAM and I can assure you that it will not happen again.

We are in the process of having our menus for the Big Apple Restaurant redone and this will hopefully be completed by mid¬-November. I do hope when you stay with us again you will enjoy the various new options that will be available.

I was pleased to hear that we catered for your needs as a conferencing GUEST and that overall you had a great impression of the Hotel and our general facilities and of course that you enjoyed the apples!

I hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Protea Hotel Wanderers in the not too distant future!

As a regular, I truly feel part of the furniture ... greeted by name all over the hotel, plate of goodies and a gown with slippers in my room, "your regular" at dinner, and just a great experience! So pleasant after a day in the office ... and please look at the picture ... found in my room from the Apples Hotel :-)

I having been coming to this hotel for the last ten years...and I must say there level of service leaves much to be desired ..I have been sitting in the smoking area for the last one and a half hours and am still waiting to be served.. There seems to be a stuff y attitude in this hotel.. The food also leaves much to be desired.. The only reason I come to this hotel if it's close to me and has easy parking.. After complaining to the management for years I guess it's time for me to spend my money else where.. as complaints here just fall on deaf ears

we spent a week in October on business. Good hotel, nice staff. There was some confusion over the loyalty card, but it got sorted out. Very nice cleaning staff who cleaned my room. Very friendly. Breakfast was very nice if somewhat pricy.

Room tip: Unfortunately I was on the first floor right next to the portico that was being revamped. I have workmen shoveling gravel right at my window. Hopefully by now this work has been completed.

I am delighted to hear that you chose to stay at our Hotel during your business trip to Johannesburg, and that the confusion with the loyalty card was sorted out.

It was so lovely to read that you found the STAFF that cleaned your room “friendly”; it is not often that we get to hear about the room attendants as they are in the rooms during the day when the GUESTS are out.

We are so sorry to hear that the noise from the maintenance that was taking place on the portico area disturbed you in your room, this has since been completed and will hopefully not need any work for some time to come.
