“A fantastic place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

The Plettenberg offers a combination of stunning views of the expansive bay, a beautifully designed and coordinated internal decor together with attentive staff who provide an excellent service throughout.
The Plettenberg is run by a woman and it shows in the attention to detail and determination to provide a quality of service which is exemplary in every way. We have just returned from a months holiday across South Africa and on reflexion the stay at the Plettenberg was outstanding- so if you cant stay aywhere else make sure you manage a stay at the Plettenberg. You should ot regret it.

Room Tip: A room with a sea view is worth the extra

“Charming hotel with great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Best features of this hotel were the restaurant ("The Sands" I think) and the views. Our dinner meal at the restaurant was top notch, with excellent seafood and service. Views from the hotel, including the restaurant, were memorable and impressive.

We visited the spa next door which was surprisingly small. Apart from excellent service at the restaurant, overall hotel service/attentiveness seemed better than average but not stellar. Our room furnishings were ok but the seating area consisted of a couch and no other chairs. The bathroom was clean but needs updating. The pool had sediment and we avoided swimming after noticing how many seagulls were bathing in it.

Room Tip: opt for a east facing upper level room for best view

“South African Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We enjoyed a very pleasant week end in this hotel. the location and views are stunning, overlooking the bay. The room was pleasant, clean and well laid out. After our safari this was a good place to chill out and relax. Although there is a lot to see in the area, we did very little. the food, both at dinner and breakfast, was excellant. The nearby restaurant called lemon Grass or Tree, was first class, one we thoroughly enjoyed. The town is a few minutes walk away, and there is direct access, for the fit,to the beach.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool/beach

“Try the degustation menu!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed in a B&B, but had dinner in the Sand Restaurant, located in the Plettenberg Hotel. The degustation menu - 6 courses with matching wines - around Euro 75 - what a bargain for the quality! We had a lovely trainee serving us the wine, unfortunately he had not been taught how to really describe the wine - but besides that, highly recommended!

“January 2012 stay at The PLettenburg”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

After many years of looking at this hotel as a potential option we finally took the plunge and stayed two nights in January. I was travellling with kids ( ages 11 and 6) so needed inter connecting rooms and after a lot of e-mails was given an option which I later discovered was a very apartment type set ( KIng beds with lounge rooms) up, at an enormous cost of R6000 per night per room including breakfast. On querying the rate I was told this was the best option.

Besides the people and the location this hotel is still n the 1980's and is not worth US$750 per night at all when compared to other hotels at simlar rates world wide. which have this Relais Chateaux rating.

THe pool room which is their showccase shot is really an awful space and the pool at 35 degrees heated a terrible swim. Twice we had to request pool towels early in the morning and frankly it needs a lot of work to modernise this whole pool area.

The shower head in the rooms almost felt like bulletts hitting you becuase the shower head is old and poorly set up. We were placed on ground floor with 8 doors and windows all of which we kept closed becuase we were concerned about the security with anyone able to access the rooms from the street. Although there was a guard at the main hotel this gave us little comfort and security is a concern in SA especially with the closest township only 1 km away.

THe breakfast selection on buffett is neither great in choice or variety and is a very standard offer, so unless you order off set menu, its dissapoints. SA has such great breads, jams...etc it would seem sloppy at a hotel at this rate to offer a standard buffett. The breakfsat room besdies the outdoor settings also very average 1980's set up.

Room Tip: Choose anything above ground if you need fresh air and are worried about the securit aspect.

Thank you for your comments which we are working on. We take security very seriously and alongside the 3 twenty four hour security guards stationed at strategic points on the property, we also have 24 hour vehicle security patrol. We trust that you will return to The Plettenberg in the future. Lisa Knight
