We chose this hotel based on availability of hotels during the World Cup plus reading positive reviews about it somewhere (maybe here, but the site we booked with). Overall, the place is nice enough - but the neighborhood is not exactly safe and while the hotel provided a security escort to walk with us at night, that didn't exactly make me feel good about the location.
They provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion of the eartherapy brand, plus soap, shower cap, sewing kit, etc so the amenities are top notch. They reused the same amenities from the day before (rather than giving us brand new stuff in addition to what we used). The bed was comfortable enough for a side sleeper and the room we had (309) was far enough away from the street that sleeping was quite quiet - especially seeing as how Africans were out celebrating an African nation's win one evening well into the night. (My sister was in room 315 and her room was much more vulnerable to the street noise - the hotel is circular).
It's an all suite hotel and includes a kitchenette with a fridge, hot water kettle, tea & coffee. The hotel has a sense of humor with silly sayings on the room keys, door tags and coasters (What color does a smurf turn when you choke it? was on one of our room keys). But the staff is professional - so it's more to make you smile, IMO.
Drive to airport using the Parktonian's car service was 520 RAND for 3 adults plus luggage.
Downside - we had them hold our luggage for a few hours after check out but before the airport drive. They ended up forgetting to give us 2 of our bags and we didn't realize it until we had gotten to the airport.
Upside - They sent a car out immediately to deliver the 2 pieces to us. Took an hour, so it was good we went to the airport 3 hours early. And the driver who took us, stayed with us the whole time too. They did not charge us for the delivery.
You are walking distance to Constitution Hill which is where SA's Constitutional Court now resides on the grounds of an old prison. Walk there and take the tour, it's a great look back at SA's history in the 20th century. Mandela & Gandhi were imprisoned here and the court was only just completed in 2003. It's teeming with symbolism, the court room and definitely was a highlight of our Jo'berg visit.
