A good hotel, room was nice, helpful staff, it was just what we needed for one night, even overpriced during the World Cup. One downside anyway, they forgot to book our transfer to the airport, causing a bit of stress.

This is really nice hotel but I would rather choose a hotel in Sandton, if I ever went to Johannesburg again. In the area where the hotel is situated you should not walk, you generally have to be careful outside of the hotel. The hotel is like prison with big fence around. So even if I liked the hotel, I would not recommend it because of the area where it is.
The hotel stuff was very helpful in everything: planning trips, providing shuttle bus and various services. We also had a dinner in hotel restaurant and it was very good quality food. The rooms are very big and comfortable.

Went with two buddies (in our 30s for World Cup).
Location was walking distance to train station (equivalent of 3 blocks), but not much else around that area with regard to tourism/hanging out/eating etc. Room itself was very old, drab, but it was spacious and they kept it clean -- the bedroom was seperate from the living area, which had a sofa decent enough for sleeping (both good features for groups > 2) and decent sized flat screen Tv. Despite being up 17+ floors, you could hear street noise ...

No problems with service. Staff was courteous and overall good. Used their driver service, and though convenient, was definitely overpriced. The hotel's buffet was decent but relatively expensive (140 rand) as well. No free WIFI, but you could pay for a local service provider and the speed was sufficient.

Overall, definitely not extravagent, but not a bad place to crash. Main knock was surrounding area -- didn't seem to have places to see/eat without hopping in a taxi. Probably 15-20 minute cab to Melville or Sandton (which were good and safe bar/restaurant areas that we enjoyed).

Last thing ... as in all cities...make sure you either get a taxi price quote before you get in, or make sure they're running the meter -- most taxis we got in in JBurg seemed to not have their meters operational.

My wife and I stayed here for one night during the World Cup to watch a match in Ellis Park. We had booked two rooms as some friends were traveling with us. It was difficult for the staff to comprehend that we had booked the two rooms under two names but had paid with one card. Then they told us they offered shuttle rides to the park and ride for the World Cup. Happy to have someone else drive us, we got in the car and were charged R 20 per person to be driven about a kilometer. This did not make me happy.

On our way back, we walked from the park and ride to be greeted by several levels of security at the hotel. This did not make us feel safe. So much for walking to a pub or restaurant and eating.

The room was good: shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer (a luxury for my wife in Africa), lotions, etc. Good AC/Heat in room. Comfortable bed and large room. No complaints there. The bar downstairs offered reasonable prices, but the food is not wonderful. I would stick to drinks.

We had to check out early in the morning for our flight out and the staff was slow, not helpful and barely awake. It became very frustrating so early when you want to dump your key and run and they make you sign papers and things. Very irritating.

On the whole not too bad, but I felt they weren't prepared for the Cup. Probably better at another time.
