“Nice quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I want to start off this review with the fact that I grew up in the country and during a time when there were no electronics, playstations, computers, etc. We had one TV which had a 13 channel knob and a bunny ear antenna. We played out doors and entertained ourselves by running around, getting dirty and discovering nature. My expectations are very low and to me, as long as I have a dry room and a blanket and a bathroom, I'm content. If you are used to 5 star hotels and the thought of something being out of place or not having all the amenities concerns you, this might not be the right place for you to stay. Given that, for what the owners have done with the land and provided was very nice. The booking was straight forward. You cannot book online. You must call and make the reservation. It's kind of a prelude to the entire experience in general. There are a handful of lodges all on about an acre or two of land. Each lodge has a number and you drive into an inner circle. The outside of the lodge was nice. Of course everything was covered in snow. We arrived at about 6pm at night. The heater was already turned on which was nice to walk into. We originally booked the lodge to split with another couple but they had to bail out last minute. We decided to still keep the reservation. The rooms are standard size. For this particular lodge (#6) the second bedroom was definitely smaller than the master bedroom. We did have one issue with the toilet paper as it looked like it had got wet and a little mildew set in. We did not bring it up to management as we had brought some just in case (we live driving distance to here) and I didn't feel like calling and having someone come over. The inside of the lodge was clean and cozy. The fireplace was a nice addition. I was hoping for a wood burning fireplace as this one was gas but it was a fireplace nonetheless. The lodge has a stove, microwave, pots/pans, utensils, plates, bowls etc for you to use. There is dishwashing soap as well as a dishwasher. There is a refrigerator as well. The sink in the main bedroom had something wrong with the faucet as it sprayed a little sideways. We just put a washcloth in the front ledge of the sink and we were fine. Outside, during the day, the view was very nice. Snow covered the entire area. There were nice big trees and the area in general was very peaceful. As a warning, there is no telephone or television in the house. Make sure you bring your cell phone. Mine had very bad coverage in the area (I have Verizon Wireless) and to make a call to the resort staff, I actually had to drive down the way to the 373 Lodge Restaurant and use their phone...was kind of disappointed with that but the restaurant made out as we decided to stay and eat. Good place to eat in the area by the way. Overall, we stayed here as the other places were booked up. You really don't have much choice in terms of where to stay but if all other places were booked up, i would stay here again as long as you know what to expect when you get there. Hope this review helps others. Enjoy

Room Tip: NOTE: When you book your reservation, the amount that is "reserved" is actually charged...

“Gorgeous Setting with a Caveat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

We enjoyed our stay at the Greer Mountain Resort. Gorgeous setting, great “free” amenities, but there is a caveat. The log motel rooms we stayed in had absolutely no sound proofing. I think there was one board between us and our next door neighbors. It’s odd to me that when renovating the rooms, the management didn’t go to the trouble of adding soundproofing. The rooms are nice, but as we were checking out, a fellow traveler mentioned that there was no hot water. He too was staying in one of the log motel rooms which are located next to the Neon Moon restaurant. (The Neon Moon closes at 9:00 p.m., so noise from the restaurant was not a problem.)

A tip for those learning to fly fish. Ask for one of the flies that floats on top of the water. We had good luck with a tiny one that looked like a mosquito. The underwater fly that we were taught with, caught nothing. The other fly caught four fish with many more strikes.

All in all, a good experience. Greer is a very nice spot if you want a break from civilization.

“Don't bother”

We were booked to stay three nights on a holiday weekend. When we got there we were so disappointed with the chalet that we decided to leave and go back home. The chalet was so small and did not seem clean. We didn't even unpack. We had paid $125 a night in advance. We attempted to get into other resorts nearby, but they were all booked. There was no one around when we decided to go back home, so we just left. They should have seen that the bed was never used and there were no suitcases or clothes in the chalet. We received a bill in the mail for $75 extra for having a dog. There was no mess, in fact we were only at the unit for 30 minutes. We didn't attempt to get a refund because it was a holiday weekend. There are much nicer places in the area, in fact within a mile. My wife looked at the Greer Resort (not to be confused with Greer Mountain Resort) and it looked really nice with luxury cabins. We ate there before leaving for home. We should have gone there! We could not find a review for the place we stayed at. It was just a depressing place. You know how you like something as soon as you walk in the door?, well this wasn't that kind of place. By the way there were cords for a TV, but no TV or phone. There and back took 12 hours of driving. It was a wasted weekend.
