“Expectations were low”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Although we had low expectations due to a previous stay 10 years ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find newly carpeted and decorated rooms and hallways. Beds were comfortable, pillows fluffy, room immaculate. Our hotel choice was dictated by its proximity to a family gathering just blocks away. If there were New Year's celebrations we heard nothing thanks to the great controls on the room air conditioning fan. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Self made waffles, varieties of fresh fruit, hard cooked eggs, bagels, donuts in addition to varieties of dry cereals and instant oatmeal were hardly a dining experience, but the area looked out at a garden/pool, counters and tables were clean. Room price was probably slightly inflated due to New Year's eve. A previous reviewer described the area well. We also noted that the security guard was a welcome sight. Except for the ballpark and LitchfieldPark airport, the area has little to offer.

Room Tip: Interior hallway access rooms on the second floor are the best.

“Comfortable Rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed here for three nights just before New Year's Day to attend the wedding of a niece at nearby St. John Vianney Church.

We were quite happy with the accomodations that we were provided, even more so with the service we received from the front desk staff.

First, you must realize that this hotel is not in a "resort area" of the Phoenix metroplex. The aircraft refurbishment industry chiefly occupies the nearby Phoenix Goodyear airport, and the motel is located just several blocks south of Interstate 10. There are residential areas to the east, but by no stretch is this an area to visit for its ambience.

At first I'll admit that I was a bit worried to park our car overnight. We consequently took everything to our room that might serve as an invitation for a break-in. But nothing untoward occurred in our three days there, and I was glad to see that the motel had a night security guard who was vigorous in his patrol.

The rooms are large and the two queen beds were extremely comfortable. The bathroom and shower were very well maintained and equipped. The center courtyard and pool area are somewhat small, but a welcome rest from the outside.

During our stay, we had two issues that required us to deal with the front desk staff. Both individuals were pleasant, competent and quick to assist us. When we wanted an additional room for a late arrival, the motel honored our previous (good) rate for the new room.

The continental breakfast provided was very good. Wide selection, coffee and orange juice quality was well above the normal for such buffets, and ample seating is available.

Overall, I'd not vacation here -- but if you have business in the area -- it is a very good place to lay your head at night.

“They've Upgraded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I stayed here a few years ago and was underwhelmed. Now, I just finished several days at the Best Western and was pleasantly surprised. My room was good size with a very comfortable pillow top king bed, refrig/micro, easy chair, desk & table, etc. The Best Western Speedlinks wi-fi was one of the best I've run across in my travels. Bathroom is small, but decent shower & water pressure.

Downsides: Doors & Locks in interior hallway rooms can be quite noisy. You might try an outside room, but those seem to have smaller a/c's. TV's are old crt's w/limited channels. Breakfast is rather limited. They have an exercise room and nice pool. Personel are real helpful. I had an issue on my last night and they responded quickly and properly.

“AVOID THIS HELATH HAZARD!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

If we could give this business less than one star, we would… My wife and I checked in for a two night stay. The first night was OK – we both thought the ‘suite’ label on our room was a little ostentatious. Apparently, their definition of a ‘suite’ is a normal sized room partitioned into two spaces . The ‘living room’ area was sized so only a small love seat could fit into it, the bedroom was quite small and the bathroom was tiny. Oh, well, at least it was clean – or so we thought (more on that later). The food at the onsite restaurant was actually quite good and the staff on that day (a Friday night) were fast and attentive, even though the place was fairly busy.
Now the disaster starts… We came back from our function the next evening and decided to go to the restaurant/bar to get a small meal. The place was virtually empty. There was one person ‘working’ who completely ignored us for twenty minutes – not even a ‘Hi, welcome – I’ll be with you shortly’, she just plain ignored us – even though she passed by our table at least twice. There was no bar tender in sight, so we got ZERO service. We walked out. Complained to the front desk and the response was a very casual, nonchalant ‘Sorry, I’ll tell her boss in the morning.’ – a response that could really only be taken as meaning ‘yeah, well, that’s the norm’… So, we went back to the room to try to find somewhere else to spend our money on food and while there my wife noticed that the dirty cups (complete with lipstick mark) she had placed in the sink in the ‘kitchenette’ to be cleaned/swapped earlier that day had been placed back on the counter –WITHOUT BEING EITHER CLEANED OR SWAPPED. The lipstick mark was still clearly visible. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!!!!! While this was going on, the toilet clogged and overflowed into the bathroom – we had to use towels to keep the effluence from getting onto the carpet of the room. Another call to the front desk – this time the response was ‘Well, our maintenance and housekeeping crews are gone for the day, I’ll have to call you back’. Ten minutes later, the callback was ‘We’re completely full; all I can do is tell you someone will be there first thing in the morning to clean’. Yeah, right. Like I trust them now to clean anything, not to mention not having a working bathroom for the night… We immediately checked out and found a much cleaner, nicer, HEALTHY hotel not a mile down the road.
Long story short – AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE – otherwise, you may end up catching it (or or some other disease form the so-called ‘housekeeping’ practices there). Absolutely HORRID experience!
This dump may be a step-up for your average illegal immigrant or drug dealer/user, but for most normal people, not so much.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

“disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

stayed at this bestwestern for the first time for the nascar race. made reservations about 8 months before, they did not honor our request of rooms. asked for a king room, when checked in was told only queen rooms available. our room was at the end of the hallway, next to the exterior door and starting about 5 am people were coming and going with that door slamming shut everytime. the hotel is close to the track, which was nice, but the best part of this property is the restaurant "hoot and howl" great selections of beers, good food and friendly service.

Room Tip: be sure and visit the "Hoot and Howl"
